i think what people who don’t like pearl jam think they sound like is exactly what yellow ledbetter actually sounds like. awwnna ceilin’ on a porch.

WtOB? wrote:the studio version of yl is just eddie mumbling gibberish and a couple of solos.
thats also most of the live versions, and thats why i said "written". and that is part of the brilliance of the song. eddie vedder doesnt even need real words to express emotion. his voice is an instrument by itself. and this is the best its ever sounded. also, those couple solos are just as emotive as EV's voice. the blues on fire.

It's lovely, but Ed is Mr. Mumblematic and the guitar is very Hendrix-derivative. I can see why people wouldn't always place it on a pedestal.
best mumbler ever lol

I'd like it more if it was something obscure. I think it's popularity irks me because of what WtOB? said.

I just really, really hate that reedy, thin, pseudo-blues guitar style that Mike enthusiastically employs on that song.
That little melodic embellishment at around the 12 second mark of the intro is like a needle being pushed into my brain.

I think it's pretty obvious after a couple listens that the song was written by Saddam Hussein who used Ed and Mike as their vessel to promote evil and all should burn in hellish torment for eternity for debasing human dignity through such perverted demonic expression

The power was in the stash, but once he walked too close to a flame and singed it off, hence the birth of Backspacer.

I don't see how All Those Yesterdays blew out Parting Ways.

It's still pretty rare: played three times in the last decade, and only once post-2012.
I saw it 11/29/13 in Portland.
Me too!
Hey I was at that show too
