It really sucks that the bonus stuff is just scraps that were left off WTLO. This stuff should have been anthologized properly.

The tapes of the January 1991 session are supposed to be missing so it will be interesting to see if "All Apologies" is the bootleg version with low vocals.

It is cool to think about but who knows... I would like to think so given the songwriting talent we know Dave has now. I imagine Kurt singing on the first 3 or 4 FF records instead of Dave (as Nirvana) and that could have been sick.

Funny Story, There is a bar about a block from my mom's house where I was living at the time called effingroovin in Bellmore, NY. Now it's a popular bar, but it also has a nice feel to it on a weekday night when it's not filled with hipsters and college kids on the weekend. One night I am in there after a date gone wrong about 6 or 7 years ago. I am talking with the ba tender and another guy sitting at the bar named Steve. Steve wasn't too warm, but was polite. We talked for about 30-35 minutes about bands and music he hated and then he had to catch a train in a rush. After he leaves I asked the bartender what his rush was, and he then tells me that it was Steve Albini and that he frequents the bar whenever he is in town. I couldn't believe it, I had just missed my chance to talk to him about the In Utero Sessions, I kept going ot the bar over the years, but never saw him again.

If Kurt hated Dave so much he wouldn't have wanted to do his songs. Kurt by all accounts was thrilled when they collaborated on Scentless Apprentice and wanted to do more songs like that.

Kurt always struck me as a shit talker so I'm sure he said all sorts of shit about Dave in front of Courtney whether he really meant any of it who knows. Probably not. He killed himself before he had a chance to grow up.

Nirvana's 20th anniversary In Utero reissue is out September 24 through Universal. It will be available on a 3xCD/1-DVD "super deluxe edition" as well as standard CD and digital formats. Today, Rolling Stone has detailed the "super deluxe edition" tracklist. It contains the remastered album, B-sides, demos, rarities, live recordings and more, totaling 70 tracks.
The first disc contains a remaster of the original LP, mixed by Albini save for the Scott Litt-mixed "Heart-Shaped Box" and "All Apologies". Albini's mixes of those tracks will be on disc one, as will time-appropriate B-sides, rarities, Litt's single mix of "Pennyroyal Tea", and more. Disc two features a new "2013 album mix" of In Utero plus demos, rehearsal recordings, and "Forgotten Tune", a newly found instrumental rehearsal track. Disco two also includes Dave Grohl's 1990 demo of the B-side "Marigold", which Rolling Stone calls "his first ever solo recording."

The third CD features the 1993 MTV "Live & Loud" concert at Seattle's Pier 48. The show, plus outtakes, is included on the DVD, which also features footage from the In Utero Euro tour and an extended version of the "Heart-Shaped Box" music video.

The reissue includes reproductions of the lyrics handwritten by Cobain, as well as a four-page note from Albini, written to the band before the recording of In Utero. The comedian Bobcat Goldthwait, who toured with Nirvana during In Utero, wrote liner notes as well.

I wonder how much of this set was mastered well by Albini and how much of it will be loudness war crap. I can't imagine that Albini mastered the whole thing. The "Nevermind" Deluxe Edition completely sucked sonically, but this set looks promising.
