I really wanted to like The Unholy as the "miraculous" is one of my favourite subjects for horror, but I'll probably just give it a drunk hate watch one day

Censor.
Super intense, gory, with beautiful photography and framing and a great creative way of using the ratio screen too. The lead actress was really good.
This one will be a top 5 from this year for sure.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. It wasn't scary and I'm not sure it was even good but I do love the two leads in these movies.

An Unquiet Grave
this is a good example of when my favourite kind of horror -- just two actors, a bare bones story, just a simple exploration of grief and other emotions -- can be as dull as dishwater if all of your ingredients don't sing

I don't know what took me so long (actually I do, Nic Cage -- I thought this movie would be something else) but I finally watched Mandy last night, and holy hell I really really liked it
when most actors appear in turds of movies you can safely assume they don't know how to judge what a good movie is anymore, but not Nic Cage
it shifts tone and even subgenre several times and each shift is pretty much seamless; no matter how over the top and intense it gets (and there's one heck of a climb), I never felt any part was jarring or didn't belong, and the revenge in the end was oh so sweet
I'm not usually a gore hound but I do love beautiful, emotionally charged horror and I do love religious / cult trauma stories and this was all of these and more
