Yeah, id assume roskilde had an effect on riot act more than anything. And the only riot act era related knowledge I can recall is an interview where someone asks why its called riot act and the room gets tense and one of them says 'next question'.

Obviously im biased because its probably my favourite record of thiers, but they are some interesting songs, with some interesting choices used, and some of eds best songs/lyrics, I wish they'd talk about it more. Plus we jump from yield being the most 'collaborative' album to ed writing half the songs again if I recall, which is also kinda interesting.

Writers block my ass. Those are some of his best songs Maybe he needs writers block more often. Or maybe his version of writers block is just not going with the first lyrics that come to mind a la backspacer.

Yeah, I'm not complaining. If he'd had that same music now, he'd be overfilling in all those spaces with words.

Yeah those are some of the best lyrics those two have written for PJ I think. It was a good time for all, musically speaking

I wouldnt be averse to the other guys writing more lyrics for PJ at all. I bet stones version of ltrp would have been wacky.

NAIS lyrics are atrocious. I mean it's not even impressing by high school standards. It's interesting how the fan base switches standards depending on who a song is credited to. If those lyrics where Ed's RM would shit all over them in lengthy posts in endless threads. Those rhymes are cringe worthy.

At the time the "writers block" made sense because of the final product: five of the 13 songs written by others, and one of the eight by Ed was a rip off of a Who song. The three instruments on Touring Band 2000 bolstered the excuse, but then we all heard Lost Dogs which has eight songs emanating from those sessions ... Ed's a big liar.

Back to the Dave A firing. I believe that it really was a case of PJ not being a band anymore and Stone realised that if Ed and Jeff had their way (ie fire Dave) then PJ COULD continue whereas if the situation wasn't resolved/changed then the band may break up. Ed was the meal ticket.

Just because Ed ultimately did produce lyrics for the Binaural sessions doesn't mean he wasn't struggling with writer's block. It means he had a hard time creating those lyrics. And, maybe, had things been going a little more easily for him in that department, he would have done more to alter all the other lyrics that guys brought in. More than just Plato to fatal, anyway, which is almost literally the least he could have done.

They're all good (including NAIS), but Rival is a particularly great one. It's got a few of my favorite PJ lyrics of their whole catalog.

I really like the nais lyrics. They're fragmented and murky but they suit the song. I'd take vague and weird over clunky and direct like ed can be sometimes. And its sung in a way that I've never really been bothered by the rhymes.

Plato to fatal was a good call, but I like the rest if the lyrics too. I thought they were eds for ages.

And yeah he probably did have writers block, he would know lol, we're just lucky the lyrics he did end up with were really good, and the ones the other guys wrote were also pretty good.

I actually didn't even know different people wrote lyrics on that record for about two years. I think it's a consistently good, albeit diverse, listen.

They're all good (including NAIS), but Rival is a particularly great one. It's got a few of my favorite PJ lyrics of their whole catalog.

Rival is good. There are some nice moments in NAIS. The rest of those are just really not good. More than a few yield and binaural songs get derailed for me due to the lyrics attached to them.

Eh, I just can't agree. Rival and NAIS are highlights, and there's nothing else on that record that I really take issue with. Like I said, having not really paid attention to the liner notes for years, and didn't matter to me that much when I learned it was different writers. I had just taken it from the start as a singular piece.
