Someone did an amalgamation of the two back when the Vitalogy Deluxe Edition came out and stated that's exactly what it was. Lined up PERFECTLY. Sounded amazing. Wish I had kept it.
anybody have this?

I believe chud did this. Brendan O brien also admitted it in one of the interviews around the reissues.

I don't see how the ending could be live. It's way too controlled and perfect.

I've mentioned it before when this topic came up, but I distinctly remember (but can't find) an interview in which one of the band members states that they used some live tracks for Red Mosquito, and that it was the first time they've ever done that.
Re: the Betterman "test," I wasn't aware that this was where the story originated. Seems like a dubious way to track a song's history. I'd love to see the BOB interview Strat mentioned for some confirmation.

Sold. Thanks Strat.
You bet! And im pretty certain chud has an audio of the "studio" track alongside the Live track and they match up identically. I believe MIkes lead lines are exact as well.

Great fill from Matt into 'SHE LOVED HIM'
Ive heard a version from like 94 or so and Eddie was O_________________________O amazing, he's still good here though. He's just missing some of that power. Still good.
I actually found myself missing the extended end though
You know all the Bettermans are live, right? Even the album version.
Well I like the live in concert versions sometimes better than the studio because it gets some extra energy and its perfect for the extended end they do.
No. I mean the "studio" version is actually a live version of the song. From a concert.
WTF? I find that almost impossible to believe
A lot of us had this reaction, but it's true.

To me the "OH OH OH OH OH OH OHHHHH" part at the end, the production there just doesn't seem possible live. Doesnt it have some kind of shaker thing or is that just a weird hi-hat? Its SO controlled. I have to look up the live version if its seriously that good...

For the sake of being a pedant, it's not the entire song that's live - it's only when the drums come in that it transitions to the live version from Atlanta with additional studio overdubs.

If you follow the link Strat posted, you'll see they just used the basic drums/bass/rhythm guitar tracks, and then added other stuff in the studio.
And I know that article says that, but I do feel they stuck witht he vocal take as well but added background vocals. I haven't listened to the atlanta version in awhile but i believe mikes lead is the same as well.
