They started out shitting the bed and didn’t get good until like three albums in. Their 90s stuff outside of Violator is pretty dodgy beyond the singles

Mrs. Bam had a gay co-worker years ago who I asked to go see Depeche Mode with me but it turned out he already had tix with his hubs and I couldn’t think of anyone else so I didn’t go.

This brings back a fond memory of how I rediscovered Depeche Mode. I vaguely remember the music video for Personal Jesus and as a kid in a Christian grade school it wasn’t really something I’d be encouraged to latch on to so that was that. Then Smashing Pumpkins covered Never Let Me Down Again and thank goodness it was during the era where you’d buy an entire CD for just one song - the whole thing was awesome - and I went back and got all the originals which were even better.
