Movie: Asteroid City (Wes Anderson)

I wouldn't fault anyone who decided this was tedious, but I had a pleasant time throughout. We talked a bit about a sort of 'style over substance' earlier in the thread. Wes Anderson used to be capable of some extraordinarily affecting emotional moments. Nothing in this one really at all comes close to that. But, yeah, I had a pleasant time throughout. I smiled

I like Wes a lot. And I liked this movie well enough but it's really flawed. And I feel like I'm missing something, some key to unlocking it. But I fear there isn't a key, you know?

The wonderful thing about such a highly stylized movie is that it invites contemplation of purely aesthetic things. I've spent much of the last twenty-fours thinking about Adrien Brody's pants and Maya Hawke's wingtips. Both were marvelous
