RATM?
Evil Empire and the debut both went triple platinum, so they didn't have the decline Pearl Jam, The Black Crowes, and The Killers had.

Oasis, until they split. But mostly also because of their second album.

Maybe Guns N' Roses too, although everything basically just fell apart creatively after 5-10 years.

I kind of think of them as a weird side case. If they'd continued to tour and put out music like Pearl Jam/The Black Crowes/The Killers, it's probably a foregone conclusion that they'd slide right into that group. They'd never have matched the sales of AFD, but they would've always been big enough to pack arenas. But they effectively didn't play live for an entire decade from like 93-03, right (not to mention went what, sixteen years without a record of original material)?

Whenever I hear that song I answer the question in my head: 'definitely dancer.'
I always feel like that song should be sung by a guy with a really thick Eastern European accent instead of Brandon Flowers.

i struggled for minutes trying to come up with clever subject matter for a "who are pearl jam's autistic peers?" spin-off thread, to no avail

That would have rivaled my "Who are Pearl Jam's artistic peers?" thread, a thread for investigation of whether or not any members of the band have ever used urination as a means of personal expression. I too gave up after several minutes of brain-racking.

I would've got all identity politics on your ass had you done this; you should be pretty glad you didn't.

your physiologically-normative buttocks-privilege is thus laid bare, as you have just microaggressed against all who have gluteal deficiencies; i await your penance.

I get what you're saying here, but it's being sort of uncharitable to how successful Vs. was. Both Vs. and Vitalogy outsold either of those RATM albums. Yes, there was a decline from Ten to Vs. in actual album sales, but both fit the description of hugely successful albums.

I mean, a dropoff in sales of nearly half is one thing when the first sold well, but when the first is an album that gets to diamond ...

I know, I didn't really take it seriously or anything and my reply wasn't meant with any seriousness either. What about foreplay? Coldplay is your fourth, right?
