I went out of my way to not make friends with my kids’ friends’ parents. I don’t regret it. I didn’t have time for more friends while my kids were young, and now that they’ve aged out, I’m glad I don’t have to try to maintain those relationships of circumstance.

One thing I’m really lacking are couple friends. I suppose kids’ sports would have been the best opportunity for that, but we had zero interest in drinking beers in hotel lobbies while our kids were at the pool.

Same. We've met several great people/parents via my children's friends and classmates. It has made arranging playdates and ridesharing so much easier.

I think I’m picking up what daft is putting down. If he’d known making friends in middle age was so difficult, he would’ve nurtured friendships earlier, and he regrets not doing so.

This is a fair point to a degree. I think you get to be more selective in school settings. As parent, your kids only make so many friends. I definitely saw a lot of the same parents through sports, but the problem is I saw them at sports, yelling on the sideline or getting hammered in a hotel lobby at a tournament. None of them appealed to me.

There is some truth to this. Our kids have been our priority after work hours for two decades, and when we had free time, we almost always chose to spend it with each other, usually at home to save money for our kids. The only part I disagree with is that I have regret. Given the chance to do it all again, I’d do the same thing.

What I really wish is that that my best friend, who I did meet as an adult - I wish his wife and my wife were good friends. That would incredible. Any time we hang out with a couple, one of us is making a sacrifice.

ive met twat. i feel it is safe to say his friends wife makes overtures at him since he is such a good looking and personable guy that his wife gets annoyed
