I just discovered this group, a Scottish instrumental band that were active through the second half of the '90s. Two basses, a guitar, drums, and some other instruments occasionally. Lots of focus on rhythm and beats, sort of like early Tortoise. Pretty neat stuff that I'm glad I stumbled on.

Been listening to a shit-ton of Caspian lately. I'd say they have moved into a solid third behind Mogwai and Godspeed on my post-rock list. Waking Season is my fav by them, but their entire catalog is solid as fuck. Hoping they release a new album this year.

Re: Soundtracks to the End of the World: The Post-Rock threa
I heard about this a little while back, just before news of the new album dropped. Godspeed played a show in Sherbrooke, Quebec last November and played this new piece. It sounds like it's still an early -in-development-type jam, and is also tonally brighter than pretty much anything else they've done. The guy who captured this video was apparently quite lucky to do so, since the venue had a strictly enforced no video policy and he managed to record the whole song.

Spinning The Four Trees now after some later-era Sigur Rós, thanks for the head's up on them... been enjoying what I've listened to thus far.turned2black wrote:Been listening to a shit-ton of Caspian lately. totally agree about caspian. i didnt like the album after four trees (tertia i think) but the last album was awesome. I've been meaning to see them live but keep missing them.
i dont think the new godspeed is on par with their other stuff. it doesn't sound very inspired. first listen, maybe it'll grow.

I keep wanting to play the new Godspeed record over and over again. I can see how people might not really like it, but it's hitting all the sweet spots for me right now.
I wasn't sold on "Behemoth" as a composition before, but hearing it captured in the studio really puts it in the best light.
