Must have been real drunk that dayTuolumne wrote:Yup, totally agree.mastaflatch wrote:this is a good song. problem is, it doesn't fit the idea of what PJ is that most of us have. i was a bit shocked when i first heard it but it growed on me (unlike You Are which was also a departure or an experiment that gloriously failed at being a good song imo). there's a lot to like (the intro's riff, the transitions, Matt's drumming, Ed's performance) and to dislike (the cheesiness of the verses' riff, the lyrics, the good bits that are left unexploited) but in the end i think that this is much better than many songs of theirs. had it not been played at almost every single show since it's première, had it not been the lead single (with a video that screams PHONY), had it not been dissected to no end we would have enjoyed it a lot more for what it is i.e. a cool rock song with throwbacks to Huey Lewis and The News

Re: Song of the Moment: The Fixer
The Fixer's okay in my book. Not great by any means, but I can sit through it without cringing. I do like the overall energy of it and that can be tricky for a band of this vintage (i.e., old dudes) to pull off. They had a pretty clear agenda on Backspacer and songs like the Fixer helped them achieve their goal.
That said, I just watched the video for the first time in years and man is it awful. The fake audience noise? Never noticed that before. Wow. Terrible. I can see how the video might have killed this song for people. I mean, most videos are bad but that one, whew. It's a video that will be watched 20 years now and look like some cheesy relic from a bygone era. It's already kind of got that feel to it.

Re: Song of the Moment: The Fixer
the video version came up on my drive home (thanks to Ridley's amazing comp). It's actually a pretty great version of the song if not for the canned crowd noise. Rougher around the edges than the studio version
