Well, now you're just nit-picking. Happy When I'm Crying is a great b-side but would have been out of place with the rest of Yield. Red Dot does a good job of being in the same vein and works as an interlude/palate-cleanser.

The fadeout on Wishlist where you're straining to hear Ed's last line is the fun of it. You're literally turning up the volume to hear him say, "I wish I was a radio song, the one that you turned up..."

I would agree with previous posters that it might be the one album where the tracklist is perfect.

wishlist is another song (like rival and unlike, say, life wasted) where the fadeout fits the song quite well--the point being that the wishes just go on forever. And Pilate has a soft beginning so it's not like that's a jarring transition.

I wonder if the problem is less the transition and more the way pilate kinda feels like you're starting in the middle of the song.

I really like it, when I'm listening from start to finish, as a palate cleanser (as someone called it earlier). I don't mind skipping from time to time and I never put it on mixes or anything. I like it well enough.

Oh, I like jarring transitions a lot. The transition is too soft, that's exactly why it doesn't work for me.

I think the first three-quarters of No Code are the best sequenced series of songs in their catalogue (Sometimes thru Present Tense), it manages the change between the harder and softer songs so well. It's quite musical, I find myself drawn in to listening to the whole thing because it's been so thoughtfully pieced together.

I never had a problem with the Wishlist fade or the transition into Pilate. I just think, now that it has been mentioned, that non fadeed Wishlist would have fit into Pilate even better.

With that said, I still like the Wishlist fade (unlike Rival, which fades too early) as an artistic choice.

Agreed with the fadeout and lead in to Pilate. The transition between Nothingman and Whipping always made me laugh to myself, but that sentiment doesn't work on Yield.

Can't get behind you about Red Dot though.
That song came on my iPhone shuffle the other day and I forgot how much I liked it. It's a great example of the quirkiness that Jack brought to the band.

I've used it as the first song on a few mixes, its pretty cool if its going to be a more upbeat mix i think

Never noticed anything wrong with Wishlist into Pilate - apart from Pilate being the weakest song on the album. I would have preferred that as a b-Side with Leatherman in its place, although I'm probably in the small minority of people who like that song.

I can see that the Nothingman to Whipping is a bit odd - it's a bit like Sometimes into Hail Hail which to me is awful.

I adore Leatherman. Just love that thing. But I'm not sure how much it works on Yield. I think it's about the perfect B-Side, though.

The only problem I have with Yield is those four extra seconds of silence after "Pilate". It feels a bit weird.
