I don't think anyone is arguing this isn't the case. But, like I said before, it's fodder for humor, especially because it's done in such a serious manner (and so much of the fan base is so serious about it).

The thing is, it's hard to blame them for the merch since most of the band wears other bands t-shirts regularly.

No. Which is kinda why it's pointless to make fun of them or their fans for that type of thing. And why it's so much fun to make fun of Pearl Jam about it.

Yeah, but no one thinks them selling t-shirts is unusual or weird or funny. Maybe the designs are pretty funny (or bad), but some have been great and iconic and a neat little part of the band's history.

People are angry with the band because of this box? Whats new with this?
They always made stuff like this, even back in the 90s.

As long as the shit sells out instantly it is hard to fault 19c for making it.
10c sells some merchandise
Collectors get some crap for their shelves
Rmers get to feel self righteous
EVERYBODY WINS!

When they make a movie of our book, Pearl Jam is gonna make so many side products to sell in conjunction with it when they realize how many Lightning Bolt references I mockingly work into the story line (example: the kid realizes his calling when he starts hearing piercing sirens in the middle of the night that no one else in his family can hear...Damn, I'm like the new Charles Dickens).
Also, Ed will probably have a role in the movie.

CAN'T TELL IF SERIOUS.
We have to have a chapter in which the lightning strike sets him free.

AT THE END OF THE SERIES, HE WILL KNOW HE HAS FULFILLED HIS OBLIGATION TO HIS FAMILY'S LEGACY WHEN THE LIGHTNING STRIKE SETS HIM FREE OF HIS TIME TRAVELING DUTIES.
