It's weird - I agree with almost all your 4-5 star choices*, but would not rate anything on Backspacer above a 3.

Oh and you need to check the auto-correct on your phone - for some reason when you typed Garden it corrected it as "release". LOL. That made me crack up; as if it is even legal to say garden > release.

*I'd add Faithfull, Light Years and Cropduster and would only give Once, Porch and Why Go 3 stars

Bugger. That leaves only 6 unarguable truths about Pearl Jam.

Walking to the bathroom at work, for some reason, just started singing this in my head....

(to the tune of the chorus of "Gonna See My Friend")

"I'm gonna take a dump, gonna take a dump, make it go away...."

Gonna see my friend, just has this meaty fat hard attack and I think it's that which bugs me going into Got Some which is really anemic by comparison. Maybe they were reaching for a contrast, two rock songs stuck up against each other but both doing very different things.

Just wish Got Some had some of the muscle GSMF has in overload.

For those that rated this a 3 or higher, you do realize it's a scale of 1-5, right?

I mean, if Backspacer is a 3 that makes the rest of their catalog 10s and up.

For me, Backspacer is better and more enjoyable than S/T, Riot Act and possibly Binaural. Not crazy about the production though.

Spent my day wondering what Backspacers songs would sound like if they had No Codes production. Or possibly Riot Acts. Wishful thinking.

I like Backspacer. It's missing some elements I associate with PJ albums but in the end that's okay. I was disappointed by the album initially but I warmed up to it over time and some of the songs grew on me.

I like songs like GSMF and Got Some a lot more now than I did initially. I really like The Fixer, I think it is great they did a song like that, its a fun song. I really like the swirling arpeggios in the chorus and the time changes. If we would have gotten something more in line with Need to Know I would have been cool with that too. I really like Stips take on Unthought Known, another song I enjoy. It's also fun to play. Johnny Guitar, Just Breathe, and Force of Nature are all cool with me.

The only songs I'm not big on is Amongst the Waves, Supersonic, Speed of Sound and The End.

The album sits somewhere in the middle of the pack for me I guess. I like it but wouldn't want another in the same vein.

As an animator and illustrator myself, I really enjoyed this.

But why is Mike naked at the end?

Thats great...the ilustration reminds me of Peter Bagge..

im guessing the mike naked thing is a hint to Amsterdam 92...i think he was naked at that show.
