"Horrible," he says, looking at Blood Meridian. "This is probably the most pulpy, overwrought, melodramatic cowboy vs. Indians story ever written."

I just don't know what to say....

Only about 40 pages in, but so far so good. It's not technical, obviously, but the prose is more sober and precise than, say, Gladwell's. It's also infinitely better written than anything by Taleb.

I really enjoyed Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy. I can't say I am thrilled with Killing Jesus. I was hoping for a Killing 1968 book that would have focused on MLK/RFK or a book about one or the other. I am not holding my breath for Killing McKinley but it is a story that I don't know much about. Maybe Killing Caesar?

I read "The Passage" by Justin Cronin, and enjoyed it enough to grab the sequel "The Twelve". I'm about half way through it and am kinda losing interest. I loved "The Stand" and would rate it as a desert island book, and this stuff is similar-ish. The trouble is I get the feeling that Cronin didn't story-board it all out or something and is kind of just going wherever his pen takes him a lot of the time. These are weighty books and I get the distinct impression that a lot of what I'm reading isn't particularly necessary to the end story, but was just a good way to pass an afternoon on the word processor at the time.

I dunno. I'll finish it soon enough and maybe I'll be wrong, but a series of books that has at times been very exciting and moreish has turned pretty "ho-hum" at the mo. We'll see...

Just needed to take a few steps back for a bit there. Clear out some cobwebs. It's all good now.
