The first season did a great job with that. I think they're trying to shift the tone a bit here. The first episode was a great bridge. But I need to let this be what it is and I'll enjoy it more, I think.

Still, really solid episode. I could watch Ted Danson do this all day long. :heartbeat:

Woodbine is great, too. He NAILED that Coen-ness in his scene with Ted outside the car. That had my heart pumping.
Well, I think Woodbine's character is really the bridge to the "Fargo-ness" of the show. That, and whatever the UFO in the first episode was about. I'm glad this season is a completely different thing. I was giddy watching this last night. I couldn't believe how much I was enjoying it. There's great tension, and still that undercurrent of local yokel goofiness.

EJ, you're absolutely right. The show isn't doing anything wrong. It's fucking killing it. I just noticed that I wanted it to be something that I don't think it's trying to be. Which is my fault, not the show's.

I'm going to watch ep 2 again tonight with fresh eyes and different expectations. See what I see. But, like I said earlier, this show has the potential to be a "best of..." kind of show if they can keep this up for the entire season.

Episode 2 recap here is a pretty nice read. Also, some quotes from some of the cast...
Spoiler: show

Also, so the main cop (Lou), is the same character as Keith Carradine's from Season 1.... (mind blown)

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I'm really interested in seeing how/if the UFO thing pays off.

My hunch is that it won't. I think they're just really trying to set a mood this season. The split screens are sometimes unnecessary (but still cool), the UFO and then the related voiceover at the end of Ep2, the Billy Bob snow man...I think they're trying to convey that general sense of paranoia and distrust of government that existed in the post-Vietnam/Watergate era.
Which makes a lot of sense. The Coens obviously do that kind of thing a lot. I love smart TV/movies where you have connect some dots and things sometimes seem unexplained or whatever. I won't have a problem if there's nothing more to it.

Just watched the second episode. This is shaping up to be even better than the first series.

I doubt that.

I actually read that Lou would be one of the main characters way back when they were still planning S2. So, I already knew it going in. I wasn't playing fair.

After watching last night's episode off the dvr I realized I look forward to the next one more than any other show at this time. Didn't watch season 1 but really glad I picked up this season. So good.

I'm actually enjoying season 2 more than season 1. The split screen moments have been handled so well. The music is great and so many great characters. That dude that plays Mike Milligan is awesome.

Getting the story of Lou Solverson as a younger man has been done so well. There was some great dialogue in season 1 when Carradine as Solverson, sitting on the porch with a rifle, talks about a dark period in the town's history after he returned from Vietnam and it's just good writing to use that line and not waste it and have it provide some context for a future season.
