I have listened through enough times now.
I dig it as well.

Wow, this album is so much better than I ever could have hoped. Adam's voice has such a wonderful lilt when he rambles on. So far Palisides Park, John Appleseed's Lament and Possibility Days are impressing me the most. Elvis Went To Hollywood is the only miss I hear. Seems like the perfect album to take for drive on a fall afternoon.

Great car album.
I got waved at (mocked?) on the freeway the other day...was moving around quite a bit in the driver's seat.

First time through only Possibility Days stuck out, but it's quickly grown on me. Very Americana/folkish/bluegrassy to me, but the band sounds great and Adam is light years better on this one than the last.
Possibility Days

Possibility Days is wonderful. Digging this album. Hope to see them again in 2015.

Definitely enjoying this album more than the last (which I've barely listened to). Dislocation and Elvis Went to Hollywood are weak spots, but the rest is great.

I saw them do this live many years ago. Gorgeous song. The original features Michael Stipe la-la-la-ing at the end, which is never a bad thing.
The original w/ Michael Stipe:

I got into Robyn Hitchcock and The Soft Boys because of Adam and CC covers. Agreed. Great stuff.
CC does a mean covers of Crazy For You and Borderline by Madonna. Fuck everyone those are two excellent pop songs.
PryTo....we should meet in the middle at a CC show someday. Red Rocks or something.

For sure. Next time they play Omaha, I'm there. The city, not the song. In fact, I saw them do She Doesn't Exist Anymore in Omaha all those years ago. What I want to know is who's playing the horn on that song. A good addition to their live sound, at least in this limited dose. Me want more.

I assumed it was Charlie on the horn? Im probably wrong.
Oddly enough Crows have not been in Omaha since 2000. Council Bluffs a few times (right across the river) but that is Iowa (eww) so that hardly counts. If you ever make it to Omaha/surrounding area the beers are on me.
They played Lincoln in 2012. I got to do the meet and greet. Awesome experience. Also the night my obsession with the band Field Report started.

Not sure. I really like Citizen Cope too so it's a tour I'd love to see. They are in Allen, Texas in Oct which is right by where my sister lives. Might rock that.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to obtain these? CD or MP3 would be fantastic. Is there a b-side collection that I don't know about, similar to Lost Dogs?
I don't know if there's a collection of them out there, but they're pretty easy to find online, including YouTube. We should make a master list, though. I'll start digging through my iTunes and see what's there. I'm sure we can get 'em to you one way or another.
Circling back on this I would LOVE to see a master list of studio recordings that aren't part of their albums, or great versions of live covers.
Thanks in advance. I want to round out my collection. All I really have are the studio albums plus a couple other singles (Shrek, Einstein...)

Page 3 of this thread has a bunch of 'em. I'd add their cover of "She Doesn't Exist Anymore," which is fantastic (video is on this page).

Shallow Days (love this tune!)
Bulldog
Diamonds, Babies, and Cars
Floating Over You
The Ghost In You
Lightning
Love and Obsession (or is it Addiction)
Margery
Wiseblood
40 Years
August and Everything After (the amazing, unreleased title track. Never heard a studio version myself)
Open All Night (LOVE this one, too!)
She Don't Want Nobody Near (great tune from the greatest hits album)
Going Down to New York Town (pretty good song fro the Mr. Deeds soundtrack)
Einstein on the Beach (great early tune from the DCG sampler)
And Mod-L Society and the Himilayas stuff.
What else, guys?
Is "We're Only Love" a Himalayas track?
I'm pretty sure. They covered a lot of Himalayans stuff early on.
Their The Ghost In You in you cover (Psychedelic Furs) is incredible. Better than the original I think.

Carriage is on Hard Candy. One of my faves. Super emotional tune. Has one of my fave CC lyrics...
"There's another world
of chocolate bars and baseball cards
That hides inside of all
this tension that I'm feeling ."
Sessions, Wiseblood, and She Don't Want Nobody Near are all great. Sessions is one of my fave songs they have ever done. Wiseblood is a cover I forget by who and SDWNN is a really fun pop song IMHO. I love the Gram Parsons shirt Adam has on in the video.

Not sure how I slipped Carriage into that list.
Anyway BRLB, what are the chances you burn and send me a b-sides/bonus tracks/covers CD of anything I don't have? I could do you the same favor for PJ if you have any requests.

Very good chances when I have a little more free time. I need to get to the store for some CDs or a flash drive. If not this weekend maybe next week sometime. PM you address and let me know what you have. if it's just studio stuff let me know. I'd love to do this.

So Counting Crows play Seattle on Saturday night. Convenient timing, the Cal Bears are in town to play the Huskies at 2pm.
After the game, I'll be wearing my Dawgs gear to the concert (UW will smash Cal by 6 points, by the way).
If anyone happens to catch the game on TV, report back here as to whether or not Adam Duritz is on the Cal sideline. My seats are on the opposite side of the field and I'm not sure if I'll be able to pick him out (you know...his hair) from that far away.

I always get confused. The Counting Crows are the annoying ones, right? And I like the Black Crowes? I think that is right. Don't the Counting Crows have that guy with dreadlocks as the lead singer?

And which band is it whose singer dates and/or marries famous actresses? Now I am confused.
