I feel like the acoustic version has a little more emotional heft to it. It's more earnest. Earnester if you will.

I like both, it's like asking me "Dapper, do you like your left or right nut better?".

Yeah, it should have either been entirely untouched or they should have just re-recorded every single song. The mix up kills me.
The mix up kills me too. I also just have a hard time listening to songs from such different eras of a band's career and making them gel as a cohesive album in my mind. I just can't hear LD as an "album". Cool songs? Mostly yes. There are a few major duds too. Good album? No.

I agree.

But there's no reason why it needs to be an "album." Listening to the PJ 20 soundtrack is more rewarding for me because it isn't meant to be an album in the sense you're talking about. It's a chronicling and it works.

I agree with that too. The drawback with LD is it feels like it was intended to be more "album" (because of all the reworking and the like), than a retrospective. As a retrospective its probably 5 stars, as an album 2-3 stars depending on my mood.

I can't remember the last time I listened to it start to finish as an "album". I usually just put on specific songs or eras.

Team Kevin Davis!
I agree the original takes are usually superior, but since they also already exist I'm happy having the newer takes.

Well, some of them are only available unofficially. The original Ten-era recordings of Alone, Brother and Hold On have yet to be officially released, for instance.

I really don't like any version of "Drifting".

But let's talk about "Strangest Tribe" for a minute. What a song

It really is.

There's some live full band version of Drifting that I have. It's my favorite. But still not as good as Strangest Tribe.

Yes it should have, as well as sad, fatal, moonlight and education

Exactly.

And I'd rather hear clean (or as clean as possible) versions of these. Without new vocals. Without hindsight lyrics. Without overdubbed solos.

Seeing Picasso's sketches doesn't take anything away from the final paintings.

my 2 least favorite things on LD are Alone and Driftin because the originals are just SO much better, Alone because the vocals on LD are awful and Driftin because the whole song us just off. anyone got a link where i can find the original driftin again? i lost it somewhere recently and havent found it again

Alone on LD is the worst thing about this album.

I was really disappointed they edited out this section of the bridge:
I can help myself don't talk to me.
I can help myself don't talk to me.
I can help myself. Myself.

Me too.

Alone on LD is awful. I kinda forget how bad it is because I never listen to it. I don't even think I have it on my iPod as part of LD.

Oh yeah, I have that one too. The one I'm talking about is different. It's plugged-in, yo.
