After a month with the album, Remurdered, Hexon Bogon and No Medicine for Regret are my favorites.

It's just boring. Sounds like they're trying to be Daft Punk.

Huh, I don't hear that at all.

Just listened to Rave Tapes for the first time. Definitely don't get the Daft Punk reference that Bob Loblaw made. I can see why so many people are having a hard time with it. There's nothing that really grabs you right out of the gate (except maybe "Remurdered," but I'd guess most people heard that before they heard the full album) which contrasts with Hardcore's slew of stellar tracks. I get the sense that this will grow, though, and the songs will distinguish themselves more.

It probably helps that I haven't heard any Mogwai in years.

I was expecting something more like Hardcore than their old stuff, but could have been happy either way. I'm not sure where this falls. It's good, but can't see myself really loving it.

I like it a lot, but much like CODY, I'll have to be in a specific mood for it. After the initial blast, I probably won't listen to it as much as Young Team or the middle records. Still, it's a great addition to the discography and I applaud them for shifting their sound.

Okay, so I've started to familiarize myself with the album a little more, but it's still early days yet. It seems to fall off after the first four tracks, but those first four are quite good. "Heard About You Last Night" is a nice, understated opener that should be a mood-setter, but it doesn't appear to be as of yet. I like how "Simon Ferocious" and "Remurdered" inject some energy in the next two spots and then "Hexon Bogon" unleashes a burst of fury for 2:30.

After that, little stands out besides the sample on "Repelish," the vocals on "Blues Hour" and the stylistic twist on "The Lord is Out of Control," which I'm definitely warming to.

still buzzing from seeing them last night, check out the encore;

small children in the background
christmas steps
batcat

so brilliant, christmas steps is my favourite song of theirs and to hear it live was incandescent!

extremely loud, call me sadistic, but i love seeing people covering their ears having to leave the room cos of the noise :lol:

The LP 'Rave Tapes' with a die-cut sleeve and printed inner bag will be available with an Indie record store exclusive one-sided 7" with the track 'Tell Everybody That I Love Them'.

sweet tune

I think "Remurdered" is one of the best tracks this band has to its name. There is so much happening in it, so much conversation between instruments written into the arrangement--the percussion during the first half reminds me of Miles Davis's "On the Corner" album, those very deliberately placed accents that by their sparseness almost serve to function as a melodic "lead" instrument, and of course the second half when that synth comes in is just fantastic. It's a truly unique track and I wish more of the songs on the record evinced that same attention to detail. The rest of the better tracks (about half the record, I'd say) are better-than-average articulations of this band's already familiar language, with maybe a few new elements discernible to the experienced listener but overall not nearly the "shift in sound" some of the comments in this thread and elsewhere have suggested. The lesser tracks feel like rote jams that are among the duller works they've released. And I find the voice-over about Led Zeppelin pointless and distracting.

6/10
