I finally took the plunge and got their album today. We'll see. I'm skeptical but they both have good taste in music :?
i just don't get the appeal of Ghost. people seem to love them but i can't fucking stand their music. i thought i'd change my mind after seeing them open for Mastodon and Opeth last year but they're schtick is even goofier live.
yeah I don't get it either
I've tried. I've listened a few times , but i can't get into ghost bc

You guys were right.

a couple new stuff I've heard recently:

Image
Paysage d'Hiver - Das Tor
atmospheric black metal, great stuff

Image
Rorcal - Világvége
really good black/doom from Switzerland
stream: http://rorcal.bandcamp.com/album/vilagvege
free download link from the band: http://bit.ly/ZH40rv

Image
Defeated Sanity - Passages Into Deformity
tech/brutal death, not always my kind of stuff but it was quite enjoyable:
stream: http://willowtip.bandcamp.com/album/pas ... -deformity

Inter Arma - Sky Burial (sludge/doom)
stream: http://interarma.bandcamp.com/album/sky-burial

First track is a bit abrupt and not very compelling but then you get this very nice bluesy instrumental track that builds things up and it gets much better from this point on.

Still scratching my head over that album's popularity. It sounded okay and I see why someone would like it but I don't get the OMG-best-album-ever status it got from pretty much everyone.

Anyway, speaking of Profound Lore, Ash Borer's Cold of Ages from last year has just been added to their bandcamp, great album:

And Menace Ruine has a bandcamp now too:

Nice, thanks for posting that Ocean link. I've heard some of their stuff here and there, but I need to sit down and dig into them a bit.

Anyone enjoying the new Intronaut? I'm not sure I like it as much as Valley of Smoke, but it is still a very good album. Lots of layers.

Anciients are a new band out of Vancouver that I've been hearing more and more about lately. Their debut comes out later this month, and they are streaming it on Bandcamp. On first listen: no way this is only their first record. I'm going to be listening to this one for a long time!
Now, what would Oscar Winner® Michael Caine do?

Doesn't appear to be streaming from that page. Or is it just me?

Oops. The stream is on Season of Mist's Bandcamp page. My bad!

The Ocean are great, but can be a bit hit-or-miss at times. Definitely worth the investment though.

I listened to the new Intronaut a couple of times and thought it was ok. Need more time with it i suspect. with headphones.

speaking of Season of Mist (man they're releasing some great albums these days), they have KEN Mode's new album streaming as well. i haven't had much of a chance to listen to it yet but their last one was excellent and this sounds like it might be as good.

Interestingly, the first time I listened to the new Intronaut was with headphones (as is my usual custom for highly anticipated music), and I was left wanting. I have a decent set of 'phones, but the album didn't seem to have the space it needed to breathe. I've listened to it several more times on my stereo and I'm enjoying it more and more each time. Another listen over headphones is probably in order now that I've peeled back some of the layers...it's definitely a grower.

I haven't sat down to absorb Entrench yet. I enjoyed KEN Mode's last few albums though, so I'll definitely get around to it before too long.

Yeah, they have an awesome sound all around. It's crazy how many styles the have crammed into their sound--and it's all very seamless.
