It's a slab of PJ doing what they do best. Intriguing melody, huge big Stone riff into the solo..chorus, played perfectly.

Vastly underrated song.
If someone said it was the best Pearl Jam song, I couldn't find it in myself to argue otherwise.

And it's played perfectly, consistently in the live setting
I can't get on board with this. I hate that MC doesn't hit the cymbals during the "it echoes" part. It drives me crazy and almost ruins it for me. I heard a '98 version today on PJ Radio from Australia, with Jack, and it was just leaps and bounds better.

Having said that, it's always been one of my favorites on Yield, and up there with my favorite PJ tunes.
I'm with you.

I agree witchu.

It's a great song, kind of hit-or-miss live.

The album track is really really good. Same with "Low Light". Both those songs benefit from careful listening through good headphones. A lot of moments of sheer aural pleasure.

Originally, when I asked Stip for his address, I was planning on buying him a decent pair of headphones to get him to listen to the song again. I came very close to pulling the trigger, when suddenly I was struck by the realization that I was about to spend $100 USD on trying to get someone on an internet message board to like a song.

So I ended up sending him a $15 horse mask instead. Same effect, probably.

When I think of stip and his Pearl Jam taste, this song usually pops in my mind:

It sounds better with the mask

No question: the opening drum fill of "Brain of J." Jack's drumming is always the first thing I think of when I think about Yield. No Code too, actually.

I listened to Yield today and, guys, it is the BEST

I heard for THE FIRST TIME that "mmmm yo hugs and kishes warm" or whatever the backup lyrics are in Pilates, I mean Pilot
...Before I used to hear "Woah, this bitch is on"

What else? Oh yeah, the drums in Faithful, they are REALLY GOOD

Oh and when you FULL BLAST "Push me, Pull me", just be careful, that's all I'm saying. Don't do it while driving, you might wreck.

I actually hit replay and listened to Pilates twice.

make it NICE

and "I'm in Hiding", that song, the beginning of it is goosebumps central.(not on your arms, on the inside of your head).."I sit and lock the back door, no one (what)ever rounds"..no longer seeing double, it seems so simple now.

and ya know, they do say Hummus. I never knew that before

I usually love Stip's taste in pearl jam, so his dislike of Low Light makes me sad.

I disagree on the bridge being the best part of Pilate, to me its the beginning part and the other verse thats like the beginning.

I'm guessing that those who hate on Low Light wouldn't feel so strongly if it hadn't become such a concert staple.

When the band, led by jack irons, slides right out of the bridge back into the chorus. Such groove and sex.

The opening riff of MFC right after red dot is fucking great. One of my favorite moments in the catalog

on faithfull, that really muscular, classic rock sounding transitional riff between the verse and "echos" part. i think mike said on one of the pj20 bonus features that stone "wrote" that part by humming it to him over the phone.
