if I can take a moment to remind the sociopaths and robots of RM how actual human feelings work, the whole point of this exercise was not Eddie Vedder playing imagine (which turns into a nice cover after a slow start), but the fact that the whole arena was singing along with him in solidarity. And yes, this happens all the time at a pearl jam show, but this isn't a pearl jam song, and would have felt like a bigger deal--something breaking through the closed circuit of the rest of the show. This would only have been possible with a song like Imagine, as opposed to the countless other more interesting but less universally well known songs.

And obviously listening to a recording is not the same as being there, but the crowd noise was left in for a reason, to invite you, however imperfectly, to share that moment.

I take it you were able to navigate to your download.

I don't care if it is a crowd of pearl jam fans, I hate karaoke

Did you just call me a robot? Or McParadigm a sociopath?

Why are you up so early on a Sunday? Oh yeah, church.

P.S. I didn't hear it yet

If only they did this with all the live recordings.

I'm pretty sure there's crowd noise on their live recordings

Seriously. It is baffling that they don't, given how they've completely based their live approach on that interaction.

I have crowd on my live recordings. I hear the crowd singing along. I hear the goofballs between songs at the indoor intimate events. I hear the wooooo's. I hear that girl doing the solo scream during several live from the Jorge songs, most notably after the opening to Given to Fly

Of course you can hear the crowd on other live releases. But it's much more ambient, it's background noise to remind you that this was once a live concert event. It's all pushed back.

What is great about this single (I think, and I don't want to speak for Stip and Broken Iris, but I think they're saying the same thing) is that the crowd is a part of the song. It's in the forefront. Those voices pull you in and help you feel a part of this in a way that none (or very few) of their other liver recordings do.

I agree. Getting the right audio mix between the subtle elements of the performance and the energy of the crowd is tough, but it seems like they were able to get it just right for this track and captured an emotional response from the audience that elevated a kinda cliche song choice.
