I played Skate or Die a lot too
2 minutes of punk is like 1 hour of Céline Diontheplatypus wrote:Man, it's like 2 minutes long!harmless wrote:Actually also this. Sorry Jorge, in spite of everything I said, I turned it off half way through.
I LOL'd. But apart from that, there's a nugget of truth in this. Punk is so fast that you can get a good taste of a song in 1 minute, unlike other genres. And, well, I wasn't expecting it to change a great deal in the second minute. Come on, that's fair.Heathen wrote:2 minutes of punk is like 1 hour of Céline Diontheplatypus wrote:Man, it's like 2 minutes long!harmless wrote:Actually also this. Maybe not objectively but I don't care about objectivity.Heathen wrote:This game isn't technically as good as a lot of other games.harmless wrote:Life is so awesome when you're playing Tony Hawk. That is a fun fact. No quotation marks necessary. Thank you for sharing that fact. I had fun reading it.Heathen wrote:"fun" fact: the gf and I took a long drive a few days ago and one of the CDs we played for the trip was a mixtape that I made of somewhat punk-ish songs, or at least acts that often are associated with punk
I hope you enjoy reading this post as much as I enjoyed writing it. From now on, every RM post should begin with "I hope you enjoy reading this post as much as I enjoyed writing it."theplatypus wrote:That is a fun fact. No quotation marks necessary. Obviously I'm not very comfortable with the notion of fun.theplatypus wrote:That is a fun fact. No quotation marks necessary. Thank you for sharing that fact. Interesting that it took a Pearl Jam song that tries its darnedest to sound like a genre to make you realize you hate that genre. Pearl Jam: always opening doors.Thejambi wrote:1. It's official...I hate punk. Pearl Jam's "neutered" punk is as far as ill go.
I've tried in the past and just thought i wasn't ready. Listening to all these links confirms it.theplatypus wrote:Interesting that it took a Pearl Jam song that tries its darnedest to sound like a genre to make you realize you hate that genre. Well, I'm probably not the best person to ask; I feel familiar with the big names, but I'm sure there's more underground stuff that is better than what I could recommend. That being said, Earl Hudson from Bad Brains; the guy does some amazing stuff...I think Topper Heddon from The Clash did great work with a diverse range of material. I don't know if you'd call him punk per se, but I like Martin Atkins a lot (who played with Public Image Ltd, among other places).harmless wrote:I know what punk drumming's meant to do, and I respect the skill of great punk drummers, it just doesn't really interest me. If I listen to fast music, it's also got to be pretty complex. So I like 'math rock' like Dillinger Escape Plan' because it's based in hardcore punk but is really complicated rhythmically. You just couldn't be Matt Cameron and play that shit. Feel free to recommend me some punk music based on anything I've said, by the way. I am open to it.digster wrote:I can't really defend Matt's drumming on the song; I agree with you, it's pretty drab overall. I was putting up a defense for punk drumming, or at least punk rhythm section. It may less be the genre and more that Matt can't do this genre well.
I think it's what makes them appealing. To me at least. They're an old school rock band essentially. The fact that they apparently never succeed at being punk or hair metal if we're talking 10 is a strength rather than a weakness in my opinion.theplatypus wrote:Interesting that it took a Pearl Jam song that tries its darnedest to sound like a genre to make you realize you hate that genre. Yeah. For a long time they've been a band that draws from, but errs on the 'good side' of genres I don't like.Mine wrote:I think it's what makes them appealing. To me at least. Pearl Jam are basically like a machine that filters the musical air of all the shit before it reaches our proverbial lungs.stip wrote:harmless wrote:Yeah.
