Re: 2015 Academy Awards
Just watched Full Metal Jacket again a couple days ago, how the hell did R. Lee Ermey not get a supporting actor nomination for his roll as Gunnery Sgt. Hartman, much less the oscar? There's not a single moment in this film where you get the sense that he's acting. Apparently he wrote much of his own lines and improvised several scenes. "Happy birthday to you,.....happy birthday to Jesus, happy birthday to you."

Re: 2015 Academy Awards
So no real upsets in the major categories other than Big Six over How to Train Your Dragon 2. I thought Michael Keaton was gaining momentum and might have pulled off Best Actor over Redmayne, who had dominated the awards leading up to last night.
I was surprised to see Grand Budapest Hotel do so well in the lesser categories, really cost me in my pool.

The only big surprise was Whiplash taking Adapted Screenplay.

I picked that one. I thought Simmons was a near lock but it would get screenplay too as its other major award.LoathedVermin72 wrote:The only big surprise was Whiplash taking Adapted Screenplay.
I was disappointed Boyhood didn't get director or picture, I was pulling for both even though I picked Birdman for the pool.

Was everyone else blown away by that Glen Campbell song? Holy hell, those were some of the most devastating lyrics I've ever heard.

Whiplash Screenplay and Big Hero 6 really goofed me up. I didn't see either of those coming at all.

I think we all also need to talk about how badass David Oyelowo's tux was. And also how cool his voice is.

My favorite part of the Oscars was learning that Chris Pinn loves black people more than Oprah.
