I'm sure almost everyone's seen this, as it's been floating around the internet for a few days, but just in case:

Yeah, a shitfest every year. I take back all the mean stuff I said about Lucas.

Why are people assuming these will be shitfests? They may very well be, I don't know, but what's got people upset? Just that they're making a bunch of them?

I had hoped that John Lasseter and the Pixar "team" would be tapped to kinda take care of the Star Wars brand. Treat it like the Toy Story series. I know that this is a pretty ridiculous notion considering how much money Disney paid for it and how the SW "brand" is already sullied. I just kinda see a Pixar/SW alliance as the only way for Disney not to fuck it up.
Then the announcement that they will churn out a movie a year. That doesn't scream quality. It screams, "The SW factory is now open!"
I do have a little hope the first one could be good. Lawrence Kasdan is writing the script and J.J. is directing. I'm not a huge Abrams fan, but he also doesn't make shit and is clearly a step up from Lucas at this point.
I realize this is all just my super silly take on this. Others can see a future with good SW stuff and shitty SW stuff and they are OK with that. For me, the steady decline in the quality of the SW universe has been nothing short of soul crushing.

Id be worried if this was starting this year, or next.. the fact that it's starting in 2015 makes me feel like they are taking the time to properly reset, get the right teams in place, and then just go crazy from there. Im optimistic.

It's a hope in vain but as long as they stay away from 100% CGI I think I'll be happy. Star Wars was never known for intense story lines. Just treat it gently and not too over the top and it will all be fine.

Well, also, movies of that scope tend to take that long to produce and market.

For sure on the production, but rush jobs can happen a lot faster (see: transformers). If this was pure and simple "PUMP OUT AZ MUCH STARRWARZ RIGHT NOW" without any regard for quality, I think 2014 would have been entirely doable.

As far as I'm concerned these guys have one shot at this. Fuck up the first one and none of the rest of it will matter.

Episode VII has to be great.

Just from a shear business standpoint, does saturating the market with a new SW movie every year really make sense? Add to this that they will probably have a SW theme park opened by 2020 and even the biggest fan will be Star Warsed out.
