Oh i'm not saying it's wrong or misguided at all, just my gut is telling me it's not the case.

So does this mean that Rudy and Touchdown Jesus aren't real either?

It seems like it could make sense with his being Mormon and being at such a big time religious school, but seems like the most out of left field way to go about it

The official stance is kind of complicated. Homosexuals can be members in good standing, but they cannot commit in homosexual sex or be sealed in marriage. The latter is the huge reason why so many Mormons donated to the Prop 8 campaign. But clearly, there is a lack of prominent gay Mormons, and Manti Te'o would be one hell of a prominent face if it were true.
