I used to really like you LMS. but this changes everything between us.
I just don't think it plays to Jeff, Stone and Mike's strengths. Nothing against the song.
You mean, like, playing guitar and bass? Everyone is in the pocket Jack is rumbling out. There's great interplay, melody, and a shit ton of rhythm.
You're over thinking it. Just say you like the other song better and be wrong. It's okay.
I've said that. I've also said that I don't believe they are in the pocket.

HIS BELIEF REQUIRES PROOF, K. ANYONE CAN FUCK ABOUT MAKING WILD CLAIMS
If In My Tree were a pocket, they'd all be in it.

Their use of delay on guitars highlights any questionable rhythm issues. There are a couple of issues with the recording most notably when Jack switches to his crash at the end. The others aren't so much a rhythm issue, just a bit messy in the mix.
While on the mix, Ed could be a touch higher in the mix (although that's a No Code choice). Also, I don't really like his vocal mic and EQ on IMT. It could be richer, it's a touch thin when he goes into a higher register.
Jeff is on for this song and the other guys play their parts well enough. I just don't believe that the parts were thought out enough. Some of the effects choices come off (to me) as bad Edge aping. A couple of production choices could have sent this track to another world but again may not have fit the overall MO for No Code.
In short, IMT reaches far higher than it gets to (which is not a bad thing). It does however keep this a 4* song for me and not a 5*. I really didn't want to get picky with IMT, I was only ever wanting to trumpet NAIS.
btw, which fucker changed their vote?

Everything you wrote only served to make me feel defensive of In My Tree so I changed mine just now. Sorry LMS...
It's the right choice for me, anyway. NAIS is a very good Pearl Jam song but I still feel like it fall short of what I expect it should, or could, do unlike In My Tree which seems somehow greater than the sum of its parts even though those parts are already pretty remarkable. The whole No Code period of the band scratches me right where I itch.

Oh, in that case I love IMT so much I would probably get arrested for frotting it in public. Take that in the back, IMT.
It's all good Spenno. As I mentioned earlier in the thread this is worthy of a final. We all itch in different ways. It's hard to criticize a sacred cow.

I feel for you here LMS. It almost hurts when our favourites go down.
My vote is solid though.

I knew it was a losing battle from the start but the tides are turning. A few years ago this would have been 75%.
