I think it was big for PJ fans bc of the legend behind Ed's uke discovery, which really narrows it down to involved fans who were aware of that story. If I was a music fan who had a little more understanding of them beyond their radio hits, and I saw "Eddie vedder ukulele songs" on the shelf in the store, I would have only glanced at it twice bc it would be so off-kilter sounding. One of those "fuckin' rock stars" moments. Like seeing a book of poetry by Billy Corgan.

But to a historian of the band, I think it's an important release in the context of Ed's evolution of a songwriter and what he brings to Pearl Jam.

The uke album is my favorite EV-led project since "Riot Act" -- not exactly stiff competition, but hey. I love that little album.

Maybe they should spend more time making a record and less time touring.

But maybe the feel a responsibility to their road crew.

'Put out music quickly, tour, make money for everybody, everybody's happy.'

Obviously, their mediocre to shitty output hasn't hurt ticket sales.

And I doubt it will from here on out. They've reached that level where they will sell well on a tour just because of the name/fanbase combo. 10 years since a good record and they sold out Greenville, South Carolina? I think they'll always do well on tour no matter how long they keep doing it.
