My guess is the Broncos were trying to trade Sanchez to MIN before they got Bradford.

I still don't think the difference between Bradford vs. Sanchez or anyone else is a 1st and 4th rounder.

I was going to post the stats from the year Hill backed up Bradford. But Bradford was hurt that entire season.

They were in a tough position with little time to make a move. I don't know what 36 year old Hill was showing throughout camp, but Bradford can definitely still play, despite his injury history. As far as the draft picks: Vikings have an extra 3rd and 4th next year and are a young team without any glaring holes depth wise, or they could move up next year if the guy they want is there. It's a win now league. Most of these coaches and FO's don't get more than 3-4 years to build. That kind of pressure forces moves like these.

MN doesn't need those top draft picks right now. We have a solid team front to back with not many holes. We are a young team but solid. We are win now because Peterson. We dont need a fantastic QB. Bridgewater wasn't a fantastic QB. We just needed someone to get the job done. A starter. If Bradford stays healthy, with the support he has around him now, we still have a chance to make a push for the super bowl. At least much more of a chance than Hill who has never been a starting QB.

If the Vikings do win the super bowl (wishful thinking) losing a bottom tier first draft pick isn't that huge of a deal (if bridgewater comes back healthy the next season)

And Bradford has never had a team like this around him either. STL wanted him to be the guy. Philly wanted him to be the guy. MN just needs him to hand it off All Day, complete a few passes to a wide open Diggs, and not run into the back of his own lineman and fumble.

Having said that... Go Bears.

Really? It seems like the Vikings have done a good job building the team from their 3-13 abyss a few years back. I would hope for their sake that at this point they'd diversified their team more so that they're no longer completely fucked if they lose Peterson for an extended period.

I think they have, but losing your QB is something pretty much no team can legitimately prepare for. I don't think Strat is saying those things in contrast, either. Both statements are true. They have a young, talented team on both sides of the ball and a hall of fame running back that they want to win a championship with. They think Bradford gives them a better shot at doing that over Hill or whoever else was available. Whether he was the best guy "available" we may never know, but a well-built team giving up a 1st rounder to (theoretically) upgrade your QB position so as not to be forced into being one-dimensional as you try to defend a division championship is not egregious to me. Let's not forget they almost beat the Seahawks last year if not for a bad FG attempt.

And just to continue since I've already spent far too much time on this... I looked up some numbers, and Bradford seems like the perfect fit on paper. He is an underrated athlete and strong play action QB with good short throw accuracy and excellent deep ball accuracy. I would worry about having to learn a playbook so quickly, but otherwise, if I'm a Vikings fan, I'm feeling a lot better after last week.
