Will be packing my bags tonight for the trip up north for the gig tomorrow. Pretty excited, but still not sure what to ask Adam Jones during the Q&A.

I saw it suggested that someone should ask Adam which songs he'd personally most like to play live if Maynard's vocals weren't the deciding factor in designing their setlists. I haven't seen if anyone had actually asked him that yet but I guess it would be interesting to find out.

Good call - I was going to ask something around the setlist - like if he gets bored playing the same stuff every night (In a less blunt manner)

Was also going to ask how he manages to keep such a dead-pan look on stage all the time, but then read the following and figured I should give it a miss....
'A guy in an interview the other day was complaining about what a shoegazer I was onstage. They miss the point, because you can barely see me onstage to begin with. We have all these projections. We have lights. We have really atmospheric, emotional, trippy, dreamy presentation with our music which completely stimulates. And they totally missed out on it because I wasn't rocking out, swishing my hair.'

So the band played Eulogy (sans Maynard) by request of a fan at the Brisbane VIP meet/soundcheck.

Neato.

Possibly the highlight of the whole experience was now to come. Incredibly Justin asks from the stage ‘What do you guys want to hear’. To my delight, a guy to my right shouts out Eulogy. Justin then comically replies ‘Nah mate’ to laughter from all of us. I was expecting him to then ask for another song until Adam walks over and agrees to try to give it ago. Danny calls out from behind his drum kit that he is up for playing it. Adam explains they haven’t played it in over a year so they might fuck up. We all reassure him that we don’t care. So the three of them play though Eulogy, stopping on one or two occasions, but quickly composing themselves to continue and see the song out in its entirety. Throughout the whole song you could see the smiles on Danny and Justin’s faces, clearly enjoying the opportunity of playing an old classic.

I saw that - been wondering what I'd ask them to play if this plays out again. Thinking either Ticks and Leeches or The Pot..

It is surprising how good Undertow still sounds.

Agreed. I think their stuff in general doesn't date itself like a lot of the music that came out around that time.
Also, I always thought the production on Tool albums was top-notch. Detailed and hefty without being murky and bogged down.

Well the concert was fun! Despite having to wait around for ages to get the VIP thing rolling - it was totally worth it!

Yeah, the guitars still sound perfect.

Though I thought the show a few weeks ago was good but not quite great, I've been listening to tons of Tool ever since. I've developed a new appreciation for 10,000 Days in particular.

Classic post-gig high right there. When people start saying they like what is generally known as the bands least accomplished album and an album they have never personally liked before you know its probably just a case of PGH.

I've never had an issue with 10,000 Days...

I forgot to mention - they played us Swamp Song at Soundcheck - that was pretty damn cool!
And as for the question you suggested I ask Adam - he turned the question around to pretty much just saying that Maynard chooses the set list, but did say there are things he would like to be playing outside of the standard set (didn't say what though) - and apparently doesn't get bored playing the same stuff pretty much every night

The combo song of "Wings for Marie (Pt 1)" and "Viginti Tres" mixed with "10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2)" is a very interesting quirk to listen to.
