this is crazy that they've included krusen and not abbruzzese. krusen's great, but this is beyond ridiculous. vs sold like a million copies in a week which had abbruzzese on drums, as well as dave a writing credits. what the hell did dave do? it must have been pretty damn bad to be continually ignored for 20 years. i'm not even a big fan of his drumming, in fact he's my least favourite pj drummer, but fuck me this is just cruel. eddie's the one who bitched during the ramones induction about CJ ramone not being inducted. surely the band has the power to invite him.
i also think jack should be included, but dave a's omission seems like they've actually gone out of their way to hurt the dude's feelings.

Wonder if there is any possible thing the fans could do to have them rethink
Seems very unlikely
But, fuck...Dave is the Pearl Jam drummer who was there for the big days. And his contributions certainly helped to get them where they are today. The band can't deny that

Daves not doing himself any favours. Again.
“It’s just a fine opportunity to see what Pearl Jam has to say in response. Let’s see if they do the right thing. It’ll be interesting to see the spin that is put on it.
That band and its management have never been ones to shy away when an injustice is done. Let’s see if they still have the courage to fight the good fight!”
He also wrote.
“I’ve seen them change a 15 year old settlement agreement just by ignoring its contents and withholding money that didn’t belong to them in order to force me to accept the changes. They know how to play the game…their way!”

How is that not doing himself any favors? He should be saying something about it.

Well for one it just reads like sour grapes, though I don't doubt it's true about the money. But I meant it's a bit silly to be asking them to do the right thing and get him included in induction and in the next sentence slate them for not paying you money they owe you.

yeah, how dare a guy cheated out of money he's legally entitled to by a big money making bully (not unlike that which the bully often protests against itself) tell anyone about it when he is then basically completely striken from the bands history. i mean, dusnt he kno ed is liek a god!

So the hall of fame only induct current and founding members nowadays? Oh the controversy...
But what about the Peppers then? Current members were Flea, Kiedis, Smith & Klinghoffer. Founding members also included Jack Irons and Hillel. And they included Frusciante as a bonus....All the others gitarists were ignored...

Agreed, I don't think it's Dave who this reflects poorly on.

When I think of Pearl Jam, I think of Dave A. and Matt Cameron. Jack Irons is inside baseball Pearl Jam.
I don't understand what "inside baseball Pearl Jam" means. But, Jack was with the band longer and meant more to the band, not only as an individual but also in their creative growth. Jack Irons is far more "essential" to the band than Dave A. I'm fine leaving both of them out, frankly. But to me, if you were going to include one and not the other then Jack Irons makes far more sense than Dave A.
Only Pearl Jam nerds know about Jack Irons. Regular people know Dave A.
Also, Dave A. was better.
I don't think "regular people" know any of the Pearl Jam drummers. MAYBE Matt.
he was the drummer for the albums that 'mattered' the most.

I think the R+R HoF does mean something - more than a Grammy. Conceding the fact that there are issues with how RnR is defined, and who gets to vote, and who gets excluded (problems with any hall of fame) the idea of their being an institution that archives and celebrates rock music history, that highlights influence (as opposed to the grammys, which measure a flavor of the month that may or may not stand the test of time) is important. It's also in line with the fact that pearl jam has always been a band that has been steeped in and aware of music history. Not all honors are the same.

Kevin Davis wrote:The idea that bands are inducted member by member is really stupid. Here is what it should look like:
1. The band as a whole gets inducted -- no specifying members, etc. "Pearl Jam" gets inducted, for the totality of their achievements and all that comes with it. That's it.
2. All full-time members past and present are at least invited to the ceremony. If one of them can't afford a ticket, his loss. But no picking and choosing here. Every band member is part of the whole story.
3. The band in its current incarnation decides how to incorporate previous members into its performance at the event, if at all.
Any other system is dumb.
this is true

Also, congratulations Pearl Jam. You are most deserving.
I think I'm more interested in who will induct them than what they'll play. I presume it'll either be:
Chris Cornell (most likely)
Neil Young (his tom waits intro was fucking terrible, so I hope not)
Bono
Michael Stipe.
Who else has given introductions before, and how were their speeches?
