We're comparing PJ's launch single with Ole.

We're in trouble.

I listened to CDM about five total times the first two days it was out. Haven’t bothered to listen again. And I was one of the ones that didn’t instantly hate the song.

For me, the disappointment lies in the nothing new under the sun quality of it. Like I've said before, the first 40 seconds are fire and then it settles into paint by BOB numbers. That's just not good enough after 5 years. You've gotta try harder than that.

Would rather see them develop that solo Ed organ song or something along those lines.

I can't decide if I like this song or not.

The live performance takes it up a notch definitely. It sounds great. The live guitars in lieu of the studio production adds a needed dimension. Ed sounds better than usual as well, I like what he does with the vocals.

The problem is, I just don't think it's a very good song. The chorus is flat and plodding and unoriginal.

It's a first grade song structure without trying to do anything new.

The most uninspired bridge of any PJ song, ever.

So, in conclusion, I'm conflicted.

I was driving and Can't Deny Me came on the radio, it took on a whole new feel, it was basically Vedder calling out and insulting the president over the airwaves, it is pretty bad ass in that way.

I wouldn't be opposed to that either.

That's the thing - I don't want to hear it on the radio or in the context of the album and think "well actually it's not quite that bad." My bar's a little higher than that.

I just want to be slightly inspired by them working at their craft in a slightly different way after all these years. I didn't think it was much to ask, but... we'll see.

I'm really not even expecting Binaural 2.0. I would just like hear some off-kilter sounds and themes. Like "My Father's Son" level stuff, but throughout the album. Surprise me just a little - that's all I ask!!

This is mainly why I wanted a new producer. Someone who would create a different air in the room.

Hopefully "Can't Deny Me" is just a quick number they dashed off a month or so ago in response to the Parkland shooting. I could totally see that being the case. And then all the other songs are produced by Daniel Lanois.
