Re: QOTSA is better than Soundgarden
This is almost my exact ranking as well, although my top 3 are Evil, Un-Reborn, and Domesticated. Overall I feel this is one of the weaker albums in the catalog for sure but enjoying a bit more than I expected after initially hearing Way You Used To (ugh)EJ wrote:About 10 times through now. I would say that Feet Dont Fail me is the only truly great song on this one.
Fortress and Villains of Circumstance could be there too.

You like "horror movie" dark, and not "drama" dark, i get it.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I like the dark when it's menacing, like SFTD and LTP. I like most of it. Some of it is even great. But it is just so, so, SO not where I want QOTSA to go. It's a massive downer of a record. I never listen to it. All of Josh's medical scare stuff just ran that record into a depression hole. Which is...fine. I get it. But I wish Homme had just made a solo record. QOTSA shouldn't be depressing.

As much as I like you VG, I don't think we should be friends anymore....VinylGuy wrote:I would say that Feet Dont Fail me is the only truly great song on this one.

I'm basicly listening to this album, as a whole, everyday. At least twice.

Re: QOTSA is better than Soundgarden
Man, I'm totally lost on the love of the last 3 Queens albums. I think they are decent, and deserve to be heard and have it's fans but NO WAY do they touch the first 4 albums. I"m listening to Villains over and over and am going "eh, what's the big deal?". It's pretty decent stuff, but there's alot of stuff the Josh of the early days could have written in his sleep. Like Clockwork too was overrated. With 3-4 good songs, and 3-4 average and some shit (Vampyre of whatever and whatever is literally the shittiest thing Josh has ever written).
To me, Josh wrangling Queens from the old anything goes/anybody goes setup of the past has diminished the band. It's like a dynasty team that's been dismantled. Before you had 3 or 4 really interesting flavors and now you have just one, and one that has a few creative slumps here and there. He's still worth listening too, but it def feels like a player trying to get out of a slump, but is getting mixed results. Evil Had Landed is cool, and I love the bass line toward the end of Way You Used to Move.

I just think that Self Titled, Rated R and SFTD are so very overrated... But that is just me.
Lullabies - Vulgaris were his top notch of criativity, IMHO.

And hell, I'm fucking glad that this dude keeps on trying new stuff.
It would be so boring to have 7 Rated R's

Rated R is certainly not overrated but i do think Self Titled and SFTD are slightly. The great songs on SFTD are really fucking great and some of his best but others fall flat for me.

SFTD is fucking perfect. Still the best rock album of the 21st century (so far).

Yeah, in a can't-sit-through-it-twice kind of way. It is such a godawful song. Josh talks about how much he struggled making that album, and it certainly shows in that steaming pile of poo.Jammer XCI wrote:Finally someone else says this. What I don't get is that some reviewers were referencing that as a central piece in the album. I'm like "eh? what ... that?" . He's a riff-tastic, melodic, sarcastic beast, and then he tries to be some sort of earnest balladeer and it's embarrassing to listen to him on that one.

Vampyre is a good song. I don't like that it's a QOTSA song, but it's good. Now Fairweather Friends - there's an unlistenable pile of shit. Easily their worst ever, IMO.
