For what it's worth, got Dallas ADA (aka wheelchair) seats at about 10pm last night.
It's a bit of a relief to get tix to my hometown show, but I agree with the general consensus that the lottery is a bit lousy. I'm curious if and how much picks are weighted so that if someone only picks one show as their first pick vs. someone who picks the same show as their first pick but also puts in for multiple shows.

There's no weighting, it's random selection.

When everyone feels like they need a degree in game theory to figure out optimal strategy, it's a good sign the process isn't designed well. But I think they'll have a pretty good system with a few tweaks.
But what is the problem they're trying to solve with the drawing? I thought the 2006, 08, and 09 ticket allocation went fairly smoothly. But I'm also fortunate enough to have a job where I can be at the computer whenever they go on sale and I'm not going for tix in huge cities. Was the server overload really any worse than you'd get at ticketmaster?

That would be an understatement.
Remember this error message?

I think that's the problem, especially for those who want or can only attend their hometown show.

Maybe 10c should hire someone with a degree in game theory to tweak their system. Or at least someone who can math.

You used the word 'pick' an awful lot there. Hi patrick, self-confessed crip here

Not in my opinion, but part of the problem was that the server crashes happened for the biggest in demand shows in 2010
and twice in 2011 meaning that no progress had been made in solving them and thus many people thought a new system was needed.

It's better than dick, I suppose.
Did you get ADA seats via 10c?

For those of you in the Northeast, were there serious problems with system from 03 on?
I know 05 Philly was a mess. Did lots of people get shut out? I never went for those shows, so I never experienced those problems.
That being said, no matter what system a lot the same amount people get shut out of Brooklyn, maybe just different people.

Am I wrong in the simple understanding of this system? Why do people think it is weighted or favors low 10C numbers?
It's a lottery, right? Plain and simple?

What if people have no choice but to travel, though? They don't play everyone's hometown. I think stacking the deck in favour of people who only want one show ends up creating more problems than it solves.
Apart from people not understanding how it works, I think the current system is actually pretty good (so long as you accept that they're aiming to spread the distribution of tickets around as much as possible.)

I never had a big problem getting tickets on the F5 system. My worst experience was MSG II 2010 which took around 40 minutes IIRC and I never actually saw the "Buy" button, I just keep clicking where it would have been. Philly 05 was in and out in 2 minutes for me and I do not remember the server crashing for that one, only that the tickets were gone by the time people with slower computers and broadband connections had finished refreshing at 10:01am PST.

2003 was a mail-in lottery. You could choose as many shows as you wanted. Huge demand for both MSG shows left a lot of people shut out of those (I got both

. So, they added one for Holmdel, NJ for those who were shut out or those wanted to exchange for that show. There's a link to the twofeethick review of the 000-2003 ticketing process a few pages back.

2003 was the last year of the mail in system and it was awesome to get tickets that way. The 2005 philly debacle is still the wriost I ever experienced. The 2010 tour was not that bad, if you f5'd and kept at it, you got tickets. I don't rememeber how it worked in 2008.
