I said as much earlier in the thread. My theory being she’s from that obnoxiously rich republican background so she’s insulated from any and all consequences and isn’t even aware of it, and that enables her to think she can just say whatever with no come back.

I never read Buried Giant but I hated both Never Let Me Go and The Remains of the Day. Just dull.

The Unconsoled may be the toughest slog. And pretty bloody worthless too.

One of them is "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street" which my kids have. I can't believe this was taken out of print.

There is a "Raja, with rubies, perched high on a throne" on top of an elephant, and "a Chinese man who eats with sticks."

I guess the Chinese man is drawn as a stereotype, and it's a book about amazing things that this kids sees so the implication is "oh my God, can you believe that I saw a Chinese man using chopsticks!? What a crazy novelty!"

The book was written in 1937. I've read it to my kids tons of times without noticing. It's also a pretty shitty Dr. Seuss book.
