Prob...definitely hung out with too many stoners back then, but, I knew more than a few people who stopped listening to PJ years before NAIS and got really into them again based on the downtrodden atmospheric vibe on that one.

Even though it's technically pretty far off the mark, I recall a lot of Gilmour and Floyd talk at the time amongst some on campus.

you're not wrong. We have this conversation every 50 pages or so (and just did a week or two ago so fairly recently). The people who need to internalize it generally don't. Some have enough positive qualities to justify pushing through. Like an Andrew Watt mix
I really appreciate you, and dozens of others who contribute.

I wonder if you guys believe that, without the trolls, there would be no discussion? Like you need an idiot to bounce off of.

Whatever the case. Love you all.
I agree with your overall point, C4Lukin. I think everyone gets drawn into the performative side of RM at times; most of us have been here for a long time, and I think the "lighthearted/jokey most of the time, focused and serious when the context warrants it" feel of the community is a reflection of what real-life groups of friends are actually like, and at its best it is one of the forum's strengths. But not everyone is on the same page all the time, not everyone has the same breakdown of troll/internet performer/sincere poster genes, and for someone like myself who sometimes feels a bit like a fish out of water where RM's seemingly unending taste for its own style of humor is concerned, it gets to be a bit much. My time at RM has been punctuated by multiple extended breaks for precisely this reason; eventually I get to a point where I just max out on it (as I am sure RM, again with its seemingly unending taste for its own style of humor, similarly maxes out on my lengthy posts). If that's where you are now, I totally relate to needing to exit stage left for a bit. Hopefully in a month or so the conversation will be a bit more robust, with more songs to talk about, a full picture of the album, etc. Despite the world at large being filled with a sense of uncertain dread, I remember the month or two following Gigaton being a really enjoyable time on RM; hopefully this new album cycle proves to be the same (minus the dread).

Just to be clear, Trag isn't a troll -- his best posts are some of the best RM has to offer. His knowledge and experience, and his ability to articulate it in a way that is accessible and illuminating and frequently funny, is an asset to this group of fans. I would join several others in asking him to cool it with comments like "you sound like a lunatic" and "stupid harmless" and the like.

Do your days have 30 hours or something? How on earth do you have the time for visiting another message board? You have like 12,000 posts in the last 7 days.

i don't know if RM has its own style of humour though. I think we tend to think too much of our "tribe" that way sometimes. We're just like everyone else

I don't post there, I can't afford to post there; it doesn't take long to read posts there then navigate away again

Well, im warming a lot with this song. It has a lot of energy and its catchy too, specially the bridge.

yeah, the bridge is awesome. Tight as hell. I still think the solo its meh, specially the guitar tone but its followed by that insanely heavy ending so im liking it more with each listen

I listened to this song twice when it dropped on spotify last night but haven’t felt the need to revisit it yet.

I think part of the problem is that there are a lot of people here who don't like modern Pearl Jam, and who view this as a place to vent about why, because they see this as a forum *about* Pearl Jam. On the other hand, there are a lot of people here, myself included, who see this as a forum for *fans of* Pearl Jam. We definitely want there to be space to be critical of the music and the band, but the massive amount of shaming taking place for earnestly liking stuff seems way out of place to us. "HOW CAN YOU LIKE THIS WHEN IT SOUNDS LIKE SHIT" is a form of bullying for a place like this, from our perspective. "I'M SO EMBARRASSED BY THIS MUSIC" is a similar type of vibe that adds nothing to the discussion. Layering it in snark and then trying to guilt people for being bothered by it doesn't help.

sounds like what you want is an echo chamber... just try not to let what other people say bother you, would be my respectful advice. Sometimes it's nice to enjoy something for reasons other people can't understand.

It's not bullying, it's just commentary for shits and giggles. Like what you like, that's the thing.

tree, if you were actually listening to me, you'd understand that I am not asking for an echo chamber at all.
