Kind of paint-by-numbers and the bad guys lacked any sort of depth, but still surprisingly decent for what it was.

I remember wanting to see this when it was only in a few theaters for like a week, but never made it to a showing. Appreciate the mention of it cuz I wouldn't have thought to search Netflix for it. Really enjoyed the spirit of it.

No, they really sound like an interesting family...

I saw Ghostbusters for the first time last night. Several friends from work caught wind of the fact that I had never seen it, and made sure that that fact did not stand.

Of course I was familiar with the general plot, characters, song, etc. and I even sort of remember watching a tie-in cartoon when I was a kid, but for the most part, this was all entirely new to me.

Several thoughts:

-These guys went from a rag-tag group to a full blown operation in the matter of a few scenes. That made me laugh, and I don't know why.
-The black Ghostbuster just comes out of nowhere, doesn't he? One minute he's walking in off the street asking for a job, the next minute he's sharing a Pembleton/Bayliss moment in the car with Stantz. He steals any scene he's in, and I just wonder why he wasn't introduced sooner, or else saved for the sequel. Just a weird character introduction that I couldn't get past while watching this.
-The premise of this film was just all out strange in a special way that only films from that era can be. The rapid development in technology coupled with the readily available drugs that were hitting the streets in 1984 really made for some outlandish movie magic.
-Who knew Bill Murray's character was such a womanizing jerk in this movie? I certainly didn't. Until now.
-I thought that Slimer would be playing an integral role in this film. Is that more a thing for Ghostbusters II, or am I remembering the cartoon? Everyone I ever knew in the 80s had some sort of Slimer action figure, including me.
-Annie Potts is a heartbreaker.

watching Star Trek tonight bc wife really wants to see it and Star Trek 2 this weekend (as do i, i'm just blown away that it was the wife's idea)

I watched DEAD MAN DOWN and 21 AND OVER last night. Liked the former much better

saw Mud last night, I gotta say this is the best by that director so far. The movie loses credibility for the action movie elements. they could have done without

the massive gun fight at the end. the story would have moved along just fine if the police had just been searching for him.

but anyway yeah I had to tough guy a few moments out so I wouldn't tear up in front of my friend.

I had to fight back tears myself, Dev. We could have bonded together and had a good cry.

Zero Dark Thirty.
At just over two and a half hour it's long. I liked it overall but the first two thirds focuses on the CIA's search for Bin Laden and finding his suspected hideout. It builds as it goes but takes a little time to get going and feels like it gets bogged down in spots. The last hour or so is the actual raid on the compound and I loved that part of it. You know how it ends but the tension and suspense still sucked me in big time. If anything it made me want to read up more on what we know happened that night.

Falling Down (1993) is probably the finest commentary on the frustrations in American culture. We're so lucky to live in America, and we take many things for granted, yet there's still that underlying anxiety that can drive us mad.

Another great Mike Douglas performance too. Too bad that it's poorly scripted in parts. It'd probably be one of my favorite movies.
