Re: The Work-Out Thread
I'm slowly incorporating a bit more cardio into my workouts. Buggered my shoulder a while back, so until that starts playing nice again and I can start upping my weights - cardio is having to fill that void some.

hell yes it does, makes you feel invincible. I followed it up yesterday with a 5.1 mile at a 9min mile. half way through caught a side cramp and left hammy cramp. I was very well hydrated so not sure what the deal was. First half of the run i flying (by my standards)turned2black wrote:10 miles in 68 minutes
Left work early and hit the gym. Tummy was acting up all morning, so I wasn't sure how I would respond on the treadmill. Things went swimmingly. Set the treadmill to just below 7-minute miles, then blasted a final 6-minute mile. Hit the sauna afterward for planks and push-ups. It'll be back to the gym tomorrow for a back-to-back.
That finishing kick builds confidence, doesn't it?BDB wrote:had the best run i've had in a month last friday. 5.5 miles with great finishing "sprint".
Took the weekend off with doing yard work instead.
will get hopefully another 5.5 miler in this afternoon. under 4 weeks until the 10k.

4 X 5:45 miles (speed work) + bouldering
Just didn't feel like running today, so I half-assed some speed work on the treadmill. 5:45 miles with 3 minute breaks. Just to mix things up, I hit the rockwall for 45 minutes afterward. Forgot how much I enjoy bouldering, although my grip and upper-body strength are a joke now.

When I do curls, I either do them on a machine or in that weird area with all the balls and ropes where all the girls hang out.4/5 wrote:Guys doing curls at the power rack ftl.
That power rack scares me. It looks like some kind of torture device. And there's usually some grunting going on around it.

It's the greatest place in the gym when used properly: squats, deads, cleans.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
its almost pointless to do anything besides lower body at these things. unless u are benching and using those band things to tie to the bar and bottom of the rack. if there's anything i hog at the gym, its this. i'll use it to stretch, do squats/deads, then stretch again.4/5 wrote:turned2black wrote: That power rack scares me. also, ive completely stopped doing curls. im not sure how good this is, but i feel like i hit my biceps enough w/ pull ups and rows that curls are kinda pointless.

10 miles in 70 minutes
6:30 miles for the first 7, then a total crash and burn. I seem to do this about once a month now.
I'm terrible.

Just got these. My commitment to minimalism is gonna be tested. They are really just hospital slippers with thicker tread.turned2black wrote:My "A" shoes (NB 1600s) now have 700+ miles on them. I was gonna buy another pair of 1600s, but went with a pair of NB Minimus HI-REZ instead. They should pair well with my "B" shoes (GoRuns) and I'll finally be sock-free.
These are just 4 oz. These will have to do until I can save up enough money to have Vibram foot pods surgically implant into the soles of my feet.

Well after a day of m contacts basically destroying my eyes and thus developing a horrible headache, on top of general lethargy state the past week I managed force myself out for a 3.5 mile run with 8:25 pace.
Glad I did it. Hopefully im turning a corner....

do any of you who run use any gadgets?
a spiffy watch with gps, heart rate monitor, app on your phone? or do you just get out there and do your business? thinking about trying out some running apps.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
I use map my run on my ol i phone with a meaty Running playlist. The map my run seems to be fairly accurate. Tells you your splits, distance, you can even turn on some coaching if that is your thing! You can set the pace you want to run at and the app will tell you if you need to speed up or slow down. It maps out your course everytime, tells calories burned etc.... Overal its pretty good for $2.99 or so
I need some new running headphones.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
I have a Garmin 110 that I use on occasion. I use it when mapping a new road route or desert/mountain trails without mile markers (which is generally most of them). I also use it for races. Most of the apps that I have tried either just flat-out don't work or are extremely inaccurate. Garmins are getting pretty freaking cheap now (I think you can get the Garmin 10 for about $120) and are worth every penny.red calzolaio wrote:do any of you who run use any gadgets?

Anyone looking for a good pair of running headphones should check out the Koss KSC75s. I have (stupidly) spent $100+ on running headphones and none have sounded better than the KSC75s. These generally will cost you less than $20. They are not in-ear headphones. They clip onto your ears.
