Stip
1. St. Vincent - Rattlesnake: This sheila again. I def. preferred this to the song from the last tourney. This is ok.
2. Fiona Apple - Every Single Night: Another of RM's chick heroes. This is also ok.
3. The Mynabirds - What We Gained in the Fire: I've enjoyed The Mynabirds stuff that I've heard. This is good.
4. Leonard Cohen - Come Healing: This was pretty cool. Gotta respect the octagenarians putting it out there.
5. Feist - The Bad In Each Other: This is a great song.
6. Mark Lanegan - Ode to Sad Disco: Still not a big Lanegan fan, but this was a more enjoyable song by him.
7. R.E.M. - We All Go Back To Where We Belong: Lovely song. Extra points for Kirsten Dunst too.
8. Tom Waits - Tell Me: Tom, always good. This was mid-Tier Waits.
9. Cloud Cult - The Invocation (pt. 1): You'll Be Bright: Never heard this before but it was pretty good. Little bit epic!
10. Pearl Jam - Mind Your Manners: I'm actually quite the fan of this song. Great stip pick. Haven't heard it in ages either and enjoyed re-listening.

1. Broken Bells - The High Road: This is nice and simple enough. Unremarkable though.
2. Spoon - Written in Reverse: I like Spoon a great deal. This is a Spoon song.
3. Arctic Monkeys - R U Mine: I'm middle-of-the-road with Arctic Monkeys. This song is OK.
4. Soundgarden - A Thousand Days Before: Never been a big Soundgarden guy. This song is alright though, sounds pretty good.
5. Mastodon - Dry Bone Valley: This is exactly the sort of thing I don't go in for.
6. Beastie Boys - Make Some Noise: BB's are perenial vote getters. This song was cool, the vid shows what sort of pulling power they have. Who wouldn't want to be in a Beastie Boys' vid??
7. Darkness - Nothing's Gonna Stop Us: The Darkness are pretty fun. This was a bit of a nothing track though.
8. Mark Lanegan & Duke Garwood - Mescalito: Everyone spags over Lanegan but I'm not so sold. This song was cool enough, and I do quite like the album as a whole.
9. Death From Above 1979 - White Is Red: Meh.
10. Taylor Swift & The Civil Wars - Safe & Sound: This is pretty enough. I quite liked The Civil Wars album that I've heard.

Vote to stipper in a pretty easy one. Solid team top to bottom.

1. CHVRCHES - We Sink: Meh.
2. Arcade Fire ~ Suburban War: Not my favourite song off of this album.
3. Bon Iver - Wash: This was a nice little ditty.
4. Afraid of Everyone - The National: I'm a fan of this band and song.
5. The Hold Steady - The Weekenders: I've always enjoyed The Hold Steady. This is a good tune.
6. Down With the Shine ~ The Avett Brothers: I enjoyed this tune - solid.
7. Adele ~ Turning Tables: Bitch can sing.
8. Sawmill Joe - Ain't Nobody's Problem: Never heard this before and really liked it.
9. Field Report - Route 18: This was also very good.
10. Wilco ~ Art of Almost: Good old Wilco. Like a big warm hug. I was being sarcastic there but listening to the tune I actually quite enjoyed it. Nice one.

Rangi Guy
1. R.E.M - It Happened a Today: This was a pretty OK tune.
2. Phosphorescent - Terror in the Canyons: I like what I've heard of Phosphorescent, in particular "There Might Be Cursing". This was pleasant.
3. Birds of Tokyo - Murmurs: I quite like what I've heard from these guys. West Oz REPRESENT! Not bad.
4. Ben Harper - Don't give up on me now: I thought this was Tom Petty at a casual listen. Ben Harper doesn't really do it for me too much.
5. Opeth - The Lines in My Hand: Tool lite. No thanks.
6. Queens of the Stone Age - If I Had A Tail: I loved this album and this is a great tune.
7. The Black Keys - Gold On The Ceiling: Also a great tune.
8. Soundgarden - Black Saturday: Not a big SG guy. This was...ok.
9. Pearl Jam - Getaway: Haven't heard this in a whiles. I like Getaway.
10. Shihad - FVEY: Shihad are alright. This is neither here or there though.

Fuck me, I have come out at a tie between these 2. Gonna go with the tiebreaker which is favourite track on either team that I hadn't previously heard - #brl gets it courtesy of Sawmill Joe!

1. Colin Stetson - Part of Me Apart From You: This is kind of impressive. "Mesmerising".
2. Sandro Perri - Wolfman: This was quite pleasant. I didn't need 10 minutes of it though.
3. Sufjan Stevens - Impossible Soul: You know, this was actually alright. Long as fuck, but alright.
4. Carla Boxulich - Lazy Crossbones: This was pretty nice.
5. Eluvium - Warm: This was quite lovely.
6. Timber Timbre - Woman: I've always liked this dude's voice - kinda quirky. I like a few of the TT albums that I've heard. Not a terrible song.
7. Esmerine - Translator's Clos II: Don't know that this really goes anywhere for me.
8. Tindersticks - Chocolate: I enjoyed this very much as a drift away piece. Nice stuff indeed.
9. Oceansize - Silent / Transparent: This started off nice enough but built into something that I wasn't so enamored with. Not terrible though.
10. Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - 'Piphany Rambler: Not a huge fan here and 14 minutes is pushing the friendship.

Heathen
1. Yellow Swans - Going Places: Is this the one that stip said could be a Halloween backing track? I can feel that. This actually made me feel a bit tight in the stomache and uncomfortable as it went on. I hit skip at the 6 minute mark.
2. Matana Roberts - I Am: This is actually kinda annoying. I lasted until the screaming at the 3 minute 30 mark.
3. Bill Callahan - Drover: This is back on track now. I quite like Bill Callahan.
4. Marissa Nadler - Baby I Will Leave You in the Morning: This is quite a beautiful song. How varied your tastes are Mr Heathen.
5. Chuck Johnson - On a Slow Passing in Ghost Town: This was up to a whopping 9 views by the time I got to it. Thanks again for these yt lists Abby - they are great. This is a pretty piece of music indeed. I enjoyed it noodling along and around as it went.
6. Balmorhea - Steerage and the Lamp: This was also a very pretty tune. Lovely and lilting. Very nice. My favourite so far from either mix.
7. Menomena - Tithe: If stip can pick out a youtube comment from a song then so can I:

"I have sex with small animals, while listening to this"

Well, I don't know about that, but it is another quite peaceful and lovely tune. Until it ramps up for the ending. This is alright - I particularly like the drum and guitar interplay, and kind of enjoy the dude's voice.

8. Retribution Gospel Choir - Poor Man's Daughter: This was alright. Not terrible or anything. And it even gets a bit epic towards the end there.
9. Yakuza - Be That As It May: Oh man. This is just shit.
10. Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - What We Loved Was Not Enough: Another long one. I didn't particularly mind this but it didn't necessarily grab me either. I get the impression that I may be missing something with a lot of these songs that other people so much "get". Oh well.

The win here goes to Brett. That was a very long listen.

Hey, I still voted for you, Heather. That track was the low point, though.

I'm pretty sure that Matana Roberts song does exactly what it's supposed to do, considering the subject matter and the emotional space it's attempting to create.

Also it's better than "Mind Your Manners".

And Stip has to admit as much because Metacritic says so.

I'm going to choose to believe that other songs on L-Bolt dragged down what would have been a much higher stand alone metacritic score for Mind Your Manners.

I like a little bit more of Stip's team than I do Bada's, so Stip gets my vote, there.

I haven't counted, but the match between Heathen and I is probably pretty close. For a bit, I thought he was going to run away with it, indicating I have less RM-friendly taste than he does. If he comes out on top, it's alright, 'cause it's a good team. Voting for myself, though.

Rangi's team's okay, but is very middle of the road, hard rock-styled, which doesn't do much for me. BRL's, in contrast, has a few songs that I rather like along with a bunch I don't care for. However, those songs I like outweigh my indifference to Rangi's, so my vote goes to BRL.
