"Mind Your Manners" is like one of Eddie's between-song political rants distilled into song-form: He reduces the people he disagrees with to uncomplicated, one-dimensional fools with no characteristics to speak of beyond their malicious intent to infringe upon his own personal freedoms; he doesn't really have a clear logical point to speak of, but he rants and raves and stomps as though a bellicose fit is a message in itself; and he uses ridiculous phrases like "or we could something else," which sounds like one of those stupid internet memes like "shitty song is shitty" or "Mind Your Manners sucks because Mind Your Manners." The whole song sounds like a teenage boy having a fit about being made to wear school uniforms. I hate everything about it with a level of hatred I have never before experienced in regards to this band.

In the past, when we've disagreed, I've appreciated your POV and the ease and clarity with which you express yourself. I've tended away from descriptions and deeper diving because this message board in particular seems to hate it, but I applaud that you've always maintained a rightful necessity towards it. You're obviously one of my favorite posters and someone I'd consider a friend though we've never met face to face. And I respect your opinion here as well.

But I don't hear that. This is one of the rare times where we're on totally different wave-lengths. This is almost as divisive as Kanye.

Suffice it to say the feeling is mutual, dct. And I very well could be missing the mark on "MYM" and hearing something completely different from the song's actual meaning. But that's how the song comes across to me.

I would read any essay/whatever you write on PJ's music. Just so you know. If the 33 1/3 people ever call you up and want you to do a book on ANY PJ album, I'd endorse it will all the power in the universe.

I am on team DcT here as well. I dont hear a fit being thrown by EV at all. This could partially be due to the fact I often find myself a liberal tree hugging hippie that rages against the religious right. But i hear truth in the words being sung. I also dont think a punk song is the medium in which dialogue between two opposing views is meant to be hashed out. I think Infallible does a better job at expressing frustration in what he believes in, and less in your face emotion that MYM leans on.

Also, i like both of these songs because well, pearl jam.

In fact, the references to god are not attacks on religion as much as they are about learned helplessness. And the self realized/metaphysically redeemed part is also sarcastic--that people who retreat into themselves in times that require solidarity and a call to arms are not to be respected.

And "this world's a long love letter that makes me want to cry" is a fantastic lyric.
