Yet nobody's talking about the fact that trump registered 50 companies in Saudi Arabia during the campaign. And none of the countries the 9/11 attackers are from are banned.

The logic being if they weren't let in to begin with, the shooting wouldn't have happened, I guess?
As far as i know there has been no information released about who the shooters were.
One suspect, a 27-year old white student.
I was kind of hoping it was a white person. But, way to go sean spicer.

What? This fucking conversation going on about how muslims are the ones causing death and destruction and this is why we ban them....
And considering Spicer already used that tragic event as a reason for the ban here....
I think the use of "hope" in that sentence seems a bit galling - it's a tragedy regardless of who the shooter was.

I expect Spicer misspoke in circumstances where the information wasn't clear.

(Also, there's no ban.)

I have to try to stay out of this thread today if I want to get any work done.

How does one define the ban if it isn't a ban when it is a ban?

Why would Spicer not have the information that was readily available to anyone with internet access?
Uh, fake news? Alternative facts?

Only the Trump administration dispenses the truth from the truth factory they've repatriated after all the unfair trade deals.

People argue its not a muslim ban because there are other muslim countries not on the list. Fair enough, but you can't separate other facts which are Trump wanted a muslim ban, trumps rhetoric on muslim registry, Giuliani's comments about trump and a Muslim ban, and additionally Trump saying that only Christians will be given priority. This is just him doing it under the law but where does it go from here? We'll see

That strategy could backfire if he waits too long and then the Dems take the House in 2018.
They gotta grow a spine first.

The US gets 8-10% of it's petrol from the Saudis, it would be an economic disaster to cross them.

I think you absolutely can separate a law and its effects from all of those things.

On the latter point, I wrote this in response to you yesterday but I bottom-paged myself:

“I’ll tell you the whole history of it,” Giuliani told Jeanine Pirro as a Brooklyn judge thwarted President Trump’s executive order. “When he first announced it, he said ‘Muslim ban.’ ”

“He called me up, he said ‘put a commission together, show me the right way to do it, legally.’ ”
I dont think he was even trying to hide it. Banning people from muslim countries but then discussing how Christians can get in because of how bad they have been treated.
I don't find this objectionable, perhaps because it mirrors the approach of both Australia and Canada.

It's simply recognising that Christians in certain areas of the Middle East are more isolated, are in significant danger and presumably have many fewer options for resettlement nearby.

It's not a ban against Muslims, so much as its preferential assessment for Christians.

Regardless of how you frame it either way it goes against one of the bedrock founding principles of this nation.

And if you support these actions, hey, more power to you. The larger issue I take with what you've said the last few days is the contempt, or disregard if that's less harsh, you seem to show for people who are protesting this issue because they're being hysterical and this isn't something actually worthy of a protest.

Nation-wide initiative to support law enforcement. They'll stop and frisk, to take all the guns away from the "bad dudes."

I really could come up with plenty of worst case scenarios, but yes, we'll see.

Well he doesn't support lynching niggers and despite your glee, for who the fuck knows reason, at Trumps rise to power you too laughed at the idea of him running.

Tonight we want to add our voices to the thousands of Americans who are protesting at airports around the country the Muslim Ban and the detention of foreign nationals and refugees. America is a nation of immigrants and we find this anti-democratic and fundamentally un-American.
