Driving to and from various activities of my youth with my papa always included Bruce Springsteen. The River, Born in the USA, the Live album and Human Touch.

Thanks evenslow! Despite my first round blunder, I feel I put together a pretty solid team. Also, I'm grateful that you helped nudge me to join this. I would not have gone on this Bruce kick that I'm on and probably would have never listened to The River, Nebraska, or Magic.

So thanks for helping me discover some really great music!

LMS vs. KD

This one is close. Both are strong, balanced teams (just like mine was!), so I'm gonna have to go with the strongest top 3 and for that my pick goes to LMS. For my money, Backstreets, Darkness and Nebraska are toppermost of the poppermost.

As an aside, it's amazing how many great songs were still available in the 20-30 range - in this case, Darkness on the Edge of Town and Badlands.

Scott vs. Bugs

Scott makes some nice picks, especially in the latter half - Tunnel of Love is a solid value pick and I dig his personal justification for Rocky Ground. But Bugs ultimately has 5 songs that I can't deny - Prove It, Spirit, Waitin on a Sunny Day, My Hometown, Darlington.

I figured I would lose first round, but I stand by (most of) my picks. In rounds 2 through 4, I picked three of Springsteen's most important songs from a lyrical and social commentary perspective. While they are not radio singles and casual favorites, they are important in his catalog of work. Maybe This Hard Land in the 2nd round was a stretch, but I stand by it and would do it again. I also knew I'd get shit for Rocky Ground, but whatever, I love it. The only pick I am disappointed that I made was Take 'em as They Come. I really should have gone with Be True there. It is a much better River outtake, and one I honestly just forgot about until I listened to Disc 2 of Tracks after making my pick and it came on. Other picks that I wish I could have fit on my team and debated taking with my last pick are For You (very surprised this wasn't picked), Real World (the solo versions from the early 90s and the Devils and Dust tour are worth seeking out), Across the Border (another very important song in his catalog, but not one I have that much attachment to), and Down in a Hole (I hate High Hopes, but this song is the highlight. When the song shifts from dark to light -- I don't know how else to describe it, but you know what I'm talking about if you hear the song -- is so emotional).

Bugs has good songs, and Long Time Comin' is one of my absolute favorites, but Galveston Bay does nothing for me and Jersey Girl is a cover so shouldn't count, even though its within the rules. So I of course vote for myself, ScottMusic, and will go down in flames singing the last verse to This Hard Land.

In the other match up, I gotta go with Let Me Sleep, but its close. I really like Last to Die, and Darkness on the Edge of Town is a monster, especially live. Hitting submit now before I change my mind, because its that close.

I think I might really dig Wrecking Ball (the album). So far, I've enjoyed all the songs on these teams from that record. Well, all but one. One of the songs I didn't care for much.

It's a solid late period album that wore well live.

If it has "Wrecking Ball" and "Rocky Ground" on it, I'm sure it's terrible.
