Are we just pretending "Shinigami Eyes" and "Player of Games" never happened or
I'll relisten later

I watched the Billy Corgan interview by Rick Beato yesterday (yes I know he is disliked here) and got into a bit of Smashing Pumpkins rabbit hole after that. I wasn't very old at the time, but I do remember hearing about how one of the touring members (Jonathan Melvoin) died of heroin overdose on Mellon Collie tour. Anyways only now did I learn that Johanthan's dad was a jazz pianist who played with Sinatra, John Lennon, The Beach Boys etc. and was part of The Wrecking Crew. I also didn't know that his sister Wendy played in The Revolution and that she was the one that came up with the Purple Rain intro, and she was 19 years old at the time. She talks about it here ~12:45 forward:
I just love learning stuff like this. Jimmy hasn't really talked about what happened with Jonathan has he? At the time the Melvoin family seemed to blame Jimmy and the band about Jonathan's drug use and death.

The story goes that Jimmy, a heavy user by that point, prepared a hit for Melvoin that he himself would be comfortable with. The problem being that Melvoin either didn't use heavily or at all prior, so he wasn't able to handle it. Jimmy was quite good at hiding the extent of his addiction, so Melvoin likely thought it was a normal dose of heroin. Either that, or Melvoin followed Jimmy's lead on dosage and Jimmy didn't have the presence of mind to correct him.
I read this many years ago and have no sources. I don't know that Jimmy has ever publicly spoken about it. I can see why Melvoin's family would blame him.

I always thought of “smashing” in Smashing Pumpkins as a verb, but maybe it’s supposed to be an adjective?
I'm glad we're getting this all figured out before we shutter this b*tch.

Yeah, I don’t think jimmy ralked about it but it was well known around 1997 or 98 when they first kicked him out.
I need to watch that interview soon.

Can songs released as singles in 2021 be considered "best of 2022" if the album came out in 2022?
