That depends. Do you mean Lightning Bolt, or my penis?

I WANT to like it, but I don't. We'll see if the album makes a believer out of me.

So far, I generally like what I'm hearing for the most part. Some slower, moody songs. Some odd time signatures. Sounds good to me.

It sounds like it will be dark, but still a bright and polished dark. If it sounds like Pink Floyd, it will probably sound like late-era Pink Floyd. Brendan O'Brien's favourite period.

I'm no Pink Floyd expert. Is any of their famous stuff late-era?

I guess I'm OK with a polished, slick production; if it's met with songs that are actually interesting and have thought behind them, it can work. Especially when the songs deserve a more layered production. If that's what this album has, I'm OK with it. Brendan's Fixer production really was nice to listen to and pick out the various sounds in the background of the mix, it was just a song that didn't deserve all of the effort. FoN, on the other hand, felt thin and devoid of layers, and that song would've been better served with that I think.

i'd need to go back and read again, but weren't the people who mentioned the production talking more about the songs sounding like there were lots of layers more than it sounding polished and slick? Of course those aren't mutually exclusive options.

Yes, I think / hope they were. But I guess the rest (polished production) seems likely because it's Brendan O'Brien. There's a chance that mixed with songs that are actually more complex and surprising, Brendan's production choices won't seem so bad.

I'm definitely not wedded to a No Code-esque messy live sound.

I have convinced myself these truths.
1. Getaway will be great in a Hail,Hail/ Last Exit kinda way, but have hooks like Daughter
2. The one two punch of Getaway and Mind Your Manners will be the best album opening in their history.
3. My Fathers Son is Johny Guitar 2 with big personal lyrics.
4. We will all talk about Sirens like it is November Rain.
5. Lightning Bolt will be this albums Fixer
6. Pendilum will be the greatest Pearl Jam song of all time.
7. Let The Records play will be amazing in its own way kinda like smile. We will hear this all football season.
8. Future Days will get better with time. Isn't Around The Bend kinda corny in a way. We love that right.
9. Yellow Moon will be really solid like Faithful some will really love this song.
All this and I haven't heard the damn thing yet.

I'd have to go back and read again too, but it's also based a little on how Mind Your Manners sounds, which to me is still a little bright and shiny, but not as much as backspacer.
