To be completely fair he only speaks what, twice to camera?
And both times he declares his unhappiness and both times he goes on to show his resolve to make it brilliant and do his best regardless of his feelings.

It’s a field day for people who want to go Cherry picking quotes out of context but when you take the whole quote in and realise that he gave such an amazing performance despite being unhappy, it robs him of the merit and credit he deserves.

Absolutely. And all of us too. Cried my Fucking eyes out the first time, watching him and knowing what he was about to do and hoping he wouldn’t.

Now I know it serves a bigger better purpose and most true to Obi wan and the Jedi and the story than any other option.

For me he was the absolute star of the documentary. He's in many scenes, stole every one of them, if he talked to us, or if he was acting and reacting.

I think the movie is poor in many ways, and I don't need to go cherry picking to say so, and that's not why I liked Mark in the documentary either.

I wouldn't call these characters nuanced. They are basically spouting template style sayings (I can't think of the word for it) that acts as a character descriptor. It was even in The Force Awakens a bit (especially whenever Finn talks)

Luke and Leia particularly are far more nuanced than anyone in the OT imo. As is kylo and even Hux. There’s far more depth on show and motivations to each character.

To such a degree I think it’s what’s putting people off.

People demanded luke be the hero and come save the day. And despite the fact that he does, it’s done in such a shocking and unexpected way, all our expectations being upended is where we find a lot of the cause of a lot of the complaints.

And I am not dismissing anyone at all for feeling that but I’m pretty sure everyone will come around to that and get on board in time.

You can have bad or minimal dialogue and complex and nuanced characters. Those things are mutually exclusive. I don't think the writing/dialogue in TLJ is bad, but even if one does, that doesn't mean the characters are layered and interesting.
