Is there a law that says social media companies have to keep its American user info in America? Or does it just have to be kept somewhere other than China?

Depends on the data. PII and PHI (e.g. HIPAA) have pretty strict rules regardless of if the user clicks a sharing agreement.

I take it TikTok has been ignoring these rules?
I assume China (not to mention the US government) has all our data anyway, but I still look forward to the wailing that will emerge from killing TikTok in the US.

Is Vine coming back?
Or are they going to make Kit Kot?

Sort of. He wants what he calls "App X".
Twitter, Insta, youtube, TikTok are all the same thing... blob+algo. What he wants is the ability to generate a real-time identity graph that mixes in not just normal tracking data but
thoughts and emotional states extracted from the tweets you read and post (Meta already does this to an extent on their content). So when LV pays Kylie Jenner to model pants in a video, you can click on her ass in the app, you buy the pants from within the app, and everyone of a similar demo one node from you in the graph gets targeted ads. Same concept goes for books, travel, journalism, art, etc. The ads can even be AI generated to show people who look roughly like you and your friends wearing those clothes at destinations similar folks searched for... just click to get that life.

In the last hour musk has and is continuing on a spree of suspending journalists accounts that cover him. Trigger seems to have been an incident involving lapd tonight
Donnie O Sullivan - CNN
Ryan Mac - NYTimes
Matt Binder - Mashable
Arron Rupar
Drew Harwell - Washington Post
ADSBExchange
RadarAtlas

He is flipping out over the attack on his kid and suspending people who are posting the flight tracker info (a bunch of folks thought it was funny to do so). Kinda understandable, but he’s playing right into their hands. They wanted this reaction.

There really is no end to the depths the insidious left will force an otherwise principled man to fall into.

Best case scenario - Twitter folds and Musk is so broken up about it he flies his Tesla into the sun.

i thought it wasnt his kid though. and as far as the flight tracker that all is public information. its not like some terrorist organization hacked into the FAA and pulled the information and gave him some hans gruber information

I'm not defending him. Fuck. I dont get why you are like this so often, particularly in light of the 'Twitter Files' thing, but whatever.
Very few folks get this level of misleading information directed at them:
WaPo, NYT, and CNN are all still on Twitter. The MDMA thing from months ago and is a second hand rumor. The Ambien thing is from 4 years ago. No mention of the attack on his kid and rule change that drove the bans. It's kind of insane and obviously intentional.
Remember,
the jet tracker is not public data or using the normal opensky data. this is misinformation. see here:

he is still using public data and guessing which plane is his. its not like elon has a cloaking device and his plane is invisible.

Musk could just drive places in a car … but which brand of car? Tough choice.
