All art requires participation so I'm not sure what your getting at?
I'm talking about art made with the intent of inviting participation vs the kind that is "look at what I was thinking and feeling at the time".
Are you saying that one is better than the other? Or are you disagreeing with people who enjoy one form more than the other?

You are always solid for a daily Offspring reference.

I'm saying I don't think people are always, or even often, cognizant that there's a difference. They'll diminish one when thinking it's the other. They'll diminish something that's inviting when what they are looking for is something more solitary or personal.

I'd argue that when it's done properly, individual art or whatever label you want to slap on it, creates participation without the effort of trying to create it.
Someone's gonna end up posting that porn girl gif again, if you bait them like this.

I see. I think that conversation has been had . It's the "songs made for a live setting" vs something like Cold Confession. I prefer the latter. I guess I'm in the camp of wanting to hear a song live because I think it is a great song and want to experience it. Opposed to wanting to hear a song so I can yell " yeah yeah yeah". I want my art to compel me to engage and participate, not for it to tell me to because I'm supposed to.

I wonder if just maybe that was a hint that these will be on the new record somehow or bonus material or something? It just struck me as a little odd that it wasn't a threat to shut down my account for some random amount of time or permanently, but rather until the new record was released. Why make that particular threat about these leaked songs if they aren't related to the upcoming album in some manner?

Am I overthinking things? Probably. Haha
they may intend to release it in the future, and now that it has leaked people will look at the S/T rerelease with these new songs and wonder why we weren't given anything else. I don't want these songs on the new album anymore since we currently have them, but I don't think they will be regardless.

Those threads are already growing cobwebs. Future Days may never get another comment after this. 52 pages in 24 hours...awesome. Someone put it best when they said "finally some tracks I don't have to convince myself to like".

It is. It's not surprising. Two were hardly knock it out of the park live performances, and the others are good (even great) studio songs. The reaction to MYM, while not quite at this level, was also very positive.

Can't people simply find one more engaging than the other though. I don't think ppeople generally put that much thought into it, there's simply types of music you like and types you don't. You can't tell people its still a valid form of art or whatever but it doesn't make a difference, they're still not gonna like it. Maybe I'm missing you're point, I am one of those aforementioned don't put much thought into it people.

And I'm one of the people who think the music should be created first and the audience participation will come organically if people connect with it. They didn't write black or alive with audience participation in mind but over the years they've progressed into songs the audience wants to be a part of.
