Re: HBO Television Show: True Detective
Looking back at season 1 I have to admit that it was mostly about the two main characters and their partnership. Both actors played their part brilliantly, I didn't even bother about the stereotypes in characters or the story telling. I got me excited for season 2. But, watching yesterdays episode almost made me cringe. I was really really bad. The last ten minutes were ok and get's this story moving at last. But come on...the stereotypes (the mexican pimps or angst ridden cops with a war past..) and dialogues?
Vince Vaugh and Collin Farrel are no Woody H and Matthew M. There's almost no interplay between all these characters, everything that was good about season 1 is missing here. And the case they are all working with? You know the 'there's always a bigger fish and the biggest one might be in your own pond' storyline has been told a thousand times before. Halfway in I feel that the characters will not be saving the show only that storyline and how it will unfolds will be of any interest. And after season 1 that's really sad...What I like best in season 2 is the worst in season 1....

The conversation between Ray and his dad about the weed was so forced and awful it made me cringe.

yes, to all of thisturned2black wrote:For me, some of the dialog is just plain bad. Rust was able to pull off all that bizarre dialog in Season 1 because he was just a weird, quirky dude. None of these characters are even remotely that engaging and, to me, much of the dialog just comes across as pretentious.

I'm not ditching the show....there's a lot worse out there and pickings are slim during the summer season, although with lines like this, I may not stick around much longer...
“Never lost a tooth. Never even had a fucking cavity.”
or even worse...
“Sometimes your worst self. Is your best self.”

That first line stopped me in my tracks. i had to sit and think if I had actually heard that line.

BUT, season 1 started slow also

For some reason, I feel like I'm just rooting for Vince Vaughn to shine. But, his dialogue is so bad, I'm not sure he's even been given a good chance to make a dramatic crossover.

I LOVE Woody and Matthew, and they were great, but I wasn't blown away by season 1...
It was ok.

It's like a really good episode of Law and Order this season.
