Lucas has been trying to revise history for the past 25 years. It's easy enough to figure out. Everything is out there. He most certainly did not have a trilogy planned from the start.

I agree with B's point -- JJ is great at beginnings and seems more interested in asking questions versus answering them. George Lucas not having a plan (although I think he had some stuff sketched out) is entirely understandable as it was brand new and there was no way to know he'd get the chance to make another one. This time around, any semblance of a coherent plan was derailed by focus on money and making their annual earnings projections. Potentially contrary to my first sentence, it may be that JJ had an overarching plan when he set out that was co-opted by aforementioned focus on cash money.

Good post. I think JJ had a plan, but Rian threw most of it down the kitchen sink. JJ returned, and mostly continued with what he had thought out from the beginning. It does create a bit of a disconnect with TLJ, similar to TFA to TLJ, but TROS is still a fun ride.

Eh, I kind of agree with Ruddo. Honestly it feels like they scrapped all original plans for the new trilogy when Rian Johnson blew all their minds. JJ maybe had no idea what to do next so he reverted back to a comfort zone and just awkwardly made it all about palpatine again.

I know thats not true, but it feels that way watching this movie. Im more disappointed by the story than I am of the entertainment value of the film.

It's comical to think that Abrams had a plan for this all along, considering the development of Force Awakens and the director change for Rise.
