No. Sometimes she requests to go places. I usually allow it.

Your average office worked and server doesn't spend 6-7 hours in a small room giving close, hands on instruction to 20 children. I don't know where your story's from, but in NC, there's no Union, so there are no bathroom breaks, lunch is with the kids, and there's no funding for barriers, masks, or spacing. Oh, and you pay subs out of your own pocket if you get sick. That last one doesn't spread disease. It's just a dick move.

Yes, and due to spread and subsequent quarantines of staff, in person is continually understaffed. The teachers spend half the day escorting kids to the bathroom and following other measures. It’s not business as usual, some perfect scenario of learning that’s leaps
and bounds better than remote learning.

The article is about Fairfax County, VA... the third richest county in the nation. But that’s not the point. The point is that scarifies were made and people with health conditions put at risk so these particular teachers could be vaccinated under the bargain they would be back in classrooms teaching. They have reneged on their part so maybe we should do the same.

Could be good for kids. I barely went to high school my senior year and look at me now!

Teachers are getting vaccinated around here right after the elderly/sick, right after the healthcare workers.

That brings up a point. In the US, no teachers are supposed to be eligible yet.

My town has had full in-person school (k-8, high school is hybrid) all school year (since early Sept). No issues so far, no one complaining, even teachers. I was skeptical this would work, but a survey showed like 85% of the parents wanted their kids in school, and so far so good. I have 3 kids in there, there's been a couple quarantine weeks, but it's been good, and the online schooling has improved greatly (for when they need it).

I work for the 6th largest school district in the country. We were fully online until October when the governor threated to defund schools that didn't offer an in-person option, so we offered the option. In my school about 150/3,000 students chose to come back in October. Parents were allowed to make their choice again for the second semester that began two weeks ago and we're up to about 250/3,000 in person. Personally, I had 0 students in the fall in-person and I have a total of 2/160 in person currently.

The union position of opposing in-person instruction after being vaccinated is such a joke. I can't think of a more effective way to prove that critics of teachers' unions were right all along and that they don't care one bit about education. Also a great way to squander all the potential good will teachers seemed to have been gaining over the last couple of years.

Our school district asked parents to commit to in-person vs. virtual for later this year. They made it clear that kids would be in pods at the school, so they'd all be in a room together watching their teachers on a computer. They didn't want students moving around to different teachers.

There was no point in going back to school just so that our kids could attend virtual school. I can't believe parents signed their kids up for an increased risk of COVID + continued shitty instruction.

That's basically what our district did. Even if you come in-person everything is still virtual, there's no difference in the education you'll receive. It must be an equally poor experience for everybody. Attending in-person is essentially just a babysitting/meal service right now.
